y guys,

I'm planning my new rig and I have a hard time deciding between a Predator 4k monitor with an average refresh rate (60) and a Predator 2k with a superior refresh speed.

One gives me video quality and the other one high refresh rate, which one would you recomend?

I'm in between these two Acer Predator monitors:

- Acer Predator XB271HKBMIPRZ 27″ G-SYNC 4K

- Acer Predator XB270HU bprz 27″ WQHD IPS G-SYNC

A third option, more expensive, would be an extra wide-angle monitor, with a compromise between refresh rate and resolution:

- Acer-Predator Z35 G Sync 144

Your opinion on this would be highly appreciated!

I have been running an Acer XB280HK (supposed to be an UHD4K2K monitor)for over a year now and even though it typically runs at the refresh rate of 60, I have been very happy with it. I am running the resolution at 3849 X 2160 at 60hz (recommended). With the G-Sync, I get no tearing and enjoy reasonable framerates with EVERYTHING in the sim maxed out. Using the NTTR map whenever I fly low over the Vegas Strip, I do see a fairly good drop in FPS, around 35 to 40 at worst, otherwise I run at the max 60FPS.

Have you used a higher refresh rate monitor before? Does the (enemy) aicraft visibility gets better or worse with 4k?

To have more than 60fps on 4k you need more oomps than any card right now can deliver reliably.

IMHO time is not ripe for 4k cause it just costs too much and speed is still not quite on par with good 1080/1440p setups.

If I was you, pick 1440p and 144/166Hz and enjoy the smoothness Gsync can deliver.

I run 1440p/Gsync and i love it over all other parts in my game rig :)

IPS is slower in response and "usually" has a motion blurr you cannot avoid, no matter the price, therefor you have "usually" the better colours @ less fps.

TN based panels are faster in every aspect, view angle is a few degrees less than IPS but overall better for gaming if one prefers speed and smoothness over true colours and better black.

For gaming my choice is TN ( I own a Gsync 1440p ) and for work/video etc. I use Mac and their IPS screens.

If I only had 1 to pick....TN SPEED and SMOOTHNESS over eyecandy

Which monitor do you own?

The IPS that I listed has a refresh of 100... looks like a nice compromise.

What is DP? Sorry for too many questions, I'm going back to the PC realm after many years and things changed a shitload!

What's bad about a monitor running in DP and not HDMI?

It's a pain if you own multiple PC's and fix PC's and many older ones dont have DP.

The Adapters I have all dont work, neither to HDMI or DVI, max I get is half a screen@ 60Hz for

Bios, then it's black. That's all.

Was happy if it had another one but Nvidia says Gsync protocol demands DP. Maybe HDMI 2.0 would work but there is none on those either.

Also...DP..has no sound. I like sound on my monitor for the easy things, like VoiceBox or YT.

Some malus for a otherwise perfect screen

Well... I only plan to have one monitor, next upgrade would be VR.

Not planning to use the monitor's speakers.

DP = Display Port in contrast to HDMI/DVI

I would buy mine again over the IPS.

I own IPS's as well and agreed, they look better, but TN is for gamers.

I would also stay at 27" and not 34". 1440p looks good till 27", any bigger and your pixels are matchbox size again ( I prefer 4k on 15" Laptops tbh ).

Don't forget that 1440 p is in an ultrawide....

Ultrawide, whatever, the larger the screen with same resolution the larger the pixels themselves.

I never wanted a 27" but that was the smallest I found with Gsync and all the other values, I am no fan of big screens unless pixel density doesnt suffer.

Apple's 5k 27" is great, even when damn close.
