Just play Microsoft Age of Empires I, II (Age of Kings) and III (colonial ages) and you got world politics and tactics on a small scale.

The one with the (most) resources can develop the best army at the moment and rules (read take away resources from others).

It is important that you develop your army at the right time and thus don’t waste resources on a useless army when it is not needed. Afterwards your army would become obsolete very quickly.

Coalitions change their relations with the more attractive partners. Partners with the (most) resources and/or with an immune power (if you can’t beat them, join them).
