Xxx Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I know this has been mentioned before, but as we progress to a fully integrated sim, I wondered if the single player wingmen AI could receive some attention? It appears to be mostly an issue in A10c, since the Ka-50 wingmen have no trouble following orders? :music_whistling: A recent mission, Smerch Hunt, revealed the only occasion my wingman complied with orders to attack, was when the order was, "attack ground targets at my SPI with Missiles" (Maverick)...Even though he was loaded with Mk 82's and CBU 87, the only weapon he would employ was the Maverick.All other requests were met with.. "Affirm....Re-join...RTB"?:doh: He didn't RTB as it happened, but just flew along enjoying the view. Xavven Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I second that motion! The AI wingmen are terrible and spend forever to set up a simple bomb run, when they're even working. Half the time they do the "Affirm, rejoin, RTB" loop and run away. The best use I have for them is to straight up take control with alt-J after I run out of ordinance.

Here's one thing I learned tho: if they do the "Affirm, rejoin, RTB" loop and run away.....it's because you incorrectly told them either to attack something that doesn't exist (ie: you say tanks when it's sam) or to attack something with a weapon they don't have. My problem recently has been with them affirming the attack, and then just following me around for a minute or so before they "join, RTB". I've no idea what's going on there...they have the correct target and they have the ordinance to engage with. I know I'm issuing the correct orders because they followed them earlier in the mission.
Gliptal Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 It really helps to anchor them about 10nm out and order them to attack from there. They tend to refuse attacking targets that are too close. You can order them back to the IP after the attack by using the "Fly to my steerpoint" command.

Oscar Juliet Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Bunyap Sims on youtube has a section where he does an a10c campaign in Nevada. He uses the AI very effectively and also mentions their quirks. Sometimes the stuff they say on the radio doesn't mean what they are actually doing. I can't remember specifics but he manages to get them to do work somehow. My Youtube Channel
