At what altitude do con trails occur and stop?

 

 

Also does the altitude vary or is it the same altitude all the time?

Contrail will vary depending on the humidity and the temperature of the air : the colder/the more humid the air is, the lower you will contrail. So yeah, altitude varies, I remember contrailling at 5000' at -30°C.

 

Usually, you can expect them to be from 24-29000' up to ~40K'

Yes, it is...try setting a temp of 20º and you will see contrails happen at 25000+...then try at 4º for example and you will have tham at 19000 ft more or less...its amazing we have this kind of things modelled, hope we get also overwing vapour at the same level of detail anytime soon :thumbup:
