Regardless of how the guidance system works, the requirement to stay within 500 meters of the deck pretty much excludes any meaningful range boost by lofting. But the thing that's getting overlooked here is that it doesn't need it. 9 km of standoff range flying NOE at high speed is plenty.

Can't wait to try it out myself. And good idea to start the thread, as interesting as the ASM is the BK90 is what I foresee being my go-to in the Viggen as I'm sure it will be for many people. Was always interested to learn more about it.

I see it being my bread and butter weapon! There are several F99th missions that force pilots to fly low and under the radar, A munition that's meant to be released in this region and cluster release is perfect!

No worries.

They aren't very wide actually, they are only 0.63m wide (1m with the wings).

There seems to be two different versions of the Bk90, a white one and a green one. Not sure if there is any difference between them other than the color.

A guess is that the green one was used on the Viggen, while the white one was used on Gripen. Just to match the color of the aircraft, but that might be wrong.

Ammunition (of any kind) painted green in the Swedish armed forces before the NATO standardization took over denotes that the round is an inert dummy. Usually this is also accompanied by a marking that says "blind" somewhere. I think Leatherneck doesn't mean that though. There was also a screenshot with a green-ish rb 75 with a yellow ring (which is weird because the yellow ring would usually indicate a live explosive warhead - inert missile body with live warhead?).

Oh yeah, now that does make sense, completely forgot about that.

So would this one also be inert then? Or does that meen something completely different?

Probably, yes. Ammunition intended for display purposes that is painted as if it was live for realism reasons can have a green band around it to mark it as inert. I'm looking at an old copy of the marking standards though which says the band is supposed to be in the other direction (around the length of the round) but that's probably what it means.

edit: oh, it's not mentioned in the standard (it's old, dates back to the 1950's), but it's most likely a simulation round. Simulerrobot 75 (inert Maverick with a live seeker head so you can use the scope in the cockpit) is marked in the same way.

The RB 75 you are referring to was more like a camo green with a yellow band though, if it was inert it would be painted in a green that was a lot more vivid. Just like on the AT4 (pansarskott), they are kind of a dark camo green with only a coloured ring to differentiate between the live (yellow band) and the training weapons (Blue band). It would surprise me if it were any different on the Viggen. :-)
