Home Fries Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 I've gone through the mission three times and I can't update the INS at the IP. Here's what I have done: Set Prep 02 and Dest 02. Set the Rho/Theta and Delta Alt for WP02 (204/6.1, -26 IIRC). Ensure BAD is enabled on the INS Ensure radar and RadAlt emitting Master Arm On, bombs selected, TAS/RS selected, PI selected. Verified Salvo, stick length and fusing (instant). In range of IP (cross near taxiway), I line up the diamond on the center of the runway and attempt to update. I have tried both the Nav Update and AG Designate HOTAS buttons, yet I cannot get the cross to display over the center of the runway (I can't even get the cross to move from the taxiway). When I follow the post-IP cues, the bombs land wide by about the same amount as the INS drift that I couldn't correct. What am I missing? -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
zaelu Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 (edited) I think the cross does not update. Not sure is this how it is suppose to happen but it was reported several times before and nothing was said about it. Because that mission has airstart and is very short time since you start till you bomb you can skip updating and simply pass over IP and proceed to target (BAD) What means "stick length"? Also "Nav Update" has same function as "AG Designate/INS Position Update "? Home Fries Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 I think the cross does not update. Not sure is this how it is suppose to happen but it was reported several times before and nothing was said about it. Interestingly enough, if you head into WP02 without pressing PI, the cross will update with AG Designate (and you end up bombing the runway). Now I'm wondering if this is a bug. What means "stick length"? Also "Nav Update" has same function as "AG Designate/INS Position Update "? stick length is basically the length of the bomb line based on intervalometer setting (longer time between drops = longer stick). Used for area targeting and/or when you want one pass, haul ass. Nav Update and AG Designate/INS Update are actually different buttons now (I discovered this after some frustration with CCRP). On the HOTAS, Nav Update is on the stick, while AG Designate/INS Update is on the throttle. I mapped my Nav Update to TMS Down and AG Designate to the eraserhead push. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
metzger Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Yeah for me it is the same. Also the intructions says that a nav cue will appear on the hud after the first update, but no cue appears until you fly over the IP so I guess the update does not work. And I think the bomb release is broken, the bomb is released immediately when I press the trigger and does not wait the cue to line up with the diamond (it moves fast so I m not so sure). Azrayen Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 "PI" mode is supposed to trigger a temporary position update: - trigger PI - make an update (oblique method via TAS radar = using AG Designate/INS Position Update control) => this update is stored as temporary and will be used for your bombing run - make you bombing run, release weapon, egress... - then you have to choose if you want to save the update as definitive (VAL) or cancel it (REC) through the PCN. I've read (haven't tested myself recently) that there may be some bugs remaining in this feature in DCS. I'm not sure the "temporary" update is supposed to change the cross position or not. ++ Az'

Thanks for explanation of the stick. Regarding the two buttons... do they normally serve different purposes? Iirc at least the OBL is made with either AG Designate/INS Update or Nav Update.
