Beazle Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 Hey guys, I have a few questions regarding slinging ops for the Huey. Specialy regarding the utility part of it like the heli-logging and other civilian operations. First, lets take example of the heli-logging missions available. Would it be possible to fly with the line always hooked to the chopper? So, no loads hooked to it going up and and load on hook going down? I want to know if there is anyone of you guys who tried doing vertical referenc with a line of 100 to 150 feet? here is a video of vertical reference longlining for guys who aren'T familiar with what it is cheers Billy
WarMachine Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Did you ever find an answer to your question about having the line connected the entire time? I'm interested in this myself. I've been trying vertical reference with the Huey since i picked up my Oculus, and it's pretty difficult to do with such a short line. another 50 feet of cable the option for doors off and or a bubble window would be helpful. I trained in real world vertical reference about 12 years ago and was hoping to use DCS as a way to get back into practice.
Holton181 Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Did you ever find an answer to your question about having the line connected the entire time? I'm interested in this myself. I did a request for implementation in DCS (don't think sling behavior is specific for the Huey) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=179984 No feedback yet... 1 Helicopters and Viggen DCS 1.5.7 and OpenBeta Win7 Pro 64bit i7-3820 3.60GHz P9X79 Pro 32GB GTX 670 2GB VG278H + a Dell PFT Lynx TrackIR 5
WarMachine Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 looks like a good request. if they implement it, hopefully they will fix the cargo hook visuals as well. right now the hook looks like let down on a reel or something because there is nothing but a black hole where the cargo hook is supposed to be. I'd like to see the aircraft cargo hook stay on the aircraft, and another hook at the end of the sling cable/rope the way it's supposed to be. that way the pilot can jettison the entire load, sling cable/rope and all in an emergency. unfortunately i don't think they'll do it. it looks like non-combat operations aren't high on their priority list.

Not much of hope here either... Helicopters and Viggen DCS 1.5.7 and OpenBeta Win7 Pro 64bit i7-3820 3.60GHz P9X79 Pro 32GB GTX 670 2GB VG278H + a Dell PFT Lynx TrackIR 5

It is unfortunate that there is not more people interested in the civilian utility side of the Huey! Nevada is such a great place to do all that with red rock park, charleston mountain etc. They're is so many possibilities like firefighting, all sort of longlining, hydro electricity support etc etc. If you guys are like me and enjoy civil Huey heres one mission I made a couple weeks ago if you want to try it: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=183893 P.s. I'd be ready to pay lots for a civilian pack Huey(or even a Bell 205 version) with longline with remote hook always on the machine, buble window, a sets of super high skids, a fast fin, bear paws, workable bambi bucket, etc etc. But I know I'm dreaming and it is never going to happen :(
canadianbaken Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 unfortunately i don't think they'll do it. it looks like non-combat operations aren't high on their priority list. Not to be rude, especially because I enjoy doing the same things you are requesting, but it is DCS World(Digital Combat)
Beazle Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Really canadianbaken!? I thought it was digital civilian simulator!? :D
WarMachine Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) Not to be rude, especially because I enjoy doing the same things you are requesting, but it is DCS World(Digital Combat) No offense taken, however I do disagree. If the C in DCS was really all that important, i doubt they would bother adding a 100 foot sling cable to begin with. most sling loads done by the military (U.S. at least) don't use long lines for combat support operations. To take it even further, why bother modeling the H model UH-1? historically speaking, there are very few examples of the UH-1H being used as a gunship, I can only think of one country who did it in any real capacity. If they were that concerned with it being a pure combat simulator, why not do the C or M model UH-1 instead, variants of the Huey that were deliberately modified by request of the Army to be used as gunships? I see what you're saying, but they kicked the door open by adding a utility helicopter. That door was further propped open when we were given a complete non combat map to fly it in with 12 civilian airfields and airports that serve no combat purpose. I don't think its unreasonable to expect the utility helicopter we were sold to be able to do utility things. There haven't been any wars fought in Las Vegas, so why not sling load some cargo? AG-51_Razor Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I couldn't agree more regarding the request for a longline with a remote hook on the end of it! if it's vertical reference work in a helicopter you're after, get the Mil-8. It has a beautiful view out the window just exactly as if it has a bubble and you're looking straight down through it! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
WarMachine Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I've had my eye on the Mi-8 for a little while, I might get it next time it's on sale.
Beazle Posted March 16, 2017 Author Posted March 16, 2017 oh well unfortunetly I don't particuly like big birds such as the mi-8! And I think a 205.. ok sorry the Huey is the best machine to longline :D The bubble widnow in the UH-1H would be great but even if someone is good with 3d modelling I would be willing to pay him to do a froot door off version :D
WarMachine Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I'm not a huge fan of the "big birds" either, but i did develop a good bit of respect for the Mi-17 when i was in Afghanistan. I would love to have a high skid version for DCS! Bubble window and pull the armor off the seats and I would be really happy. If Belsimtek sold a civilian add-on pack, I'd buy it in a heart beat. even if it was just the one civilian mod, I'd still buy it.
