BlackLion213 Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 The problem with the shadows really isn't too noticeable to me and only minimally detracts from the cockpit...and on that note: This module is insane! My first take-off in VR was easily the most exciting moment I've had operating a computer. Between the visuals and sound, the sense of speed was tremendous and enthralling. The sound of the afterburner in this thing will rattle your soul. I might have to turn off the "hear like helmet" feature to really enjoy that afterburner. I've never had such an amazing first impression from a module. The Viggen is easily my favorite module in DCS - which says a lot because I REALLY like the MiG-21 and Spitfire. The cockpit is gorgeous! I expected a new benchmark with this release, but I was still surprised by how detailed and realistic everything appears, even with the slightly malfunctioning shadows. The cockpit as a whole looks amazing in VR (very 3D and tons of small details), but the small details really bring things to life (mounting of the HUD, the way the HUD looks like light reflecting of glass, the glare-shield). It's amazing and feels photo-realistic to me. I don't think it could look better without a higher-res VR/HMD. Also, the cockpit is quite clear/legible, I have been able to turn down the pixel density to 1.3 and it still looks really clear. This also seems to be the case with the MiG-21 and Spitfire, not sure why. THE SOUND! The afterburner roar is a new high for DCS, it really stirs something inside. However, all the other sounds also make a huge difference (the distinctive switch clicks, sound of the throttle in the AB detents, etc). It is distinctive and awesome - a home run! The Viggen actually performs well with my GTX970! Performance is much better than the MiG-21 (I still put up with it for the MiG :) ) and better than the Spitfire. It is also at least as good if not better than the F-5E. Also, the RADAR does not have a noticeable performance hit (or at least really small from what I have tried). I do have some brief stutters with rapid view changes (as mentioned by others), but besides brief hiccups the performance is really great in VR. Between the solid performance, incredible visuals, cockpit clarity, and sound - this is easily the best module yet for VR. The "3 position switch" feature for the RADAR and such is REALLY helpful for key binding - thank you for that! Engine modeling is mighty impressive. I don't know much about the RM8A (compared to the TF30), but the modeling of compressor stalls matches my understanding and readings very well. The way the engine behaves is very dynamic and varies with speed, altitude, and how many times you let her cough. I've seen a wide variety of stalls and they feel very real (the vibration is also a great touch). This impressive recreation bodes very well for the TF30! :D Exterior model is beautiful and looks great in the Rift. The best looking module yet IMHO. Flight dynamics feel outstanding! I've been very happy with the FM so far and it feels very realistic to me (for what it's worth as a non-Viggen-pilot). Aircraft behavior changes considerably with speed and conditions. The aircraft has that analog plus CAS/SAS feel with nice crisp controls, but not the kind of supernatural damping found with FBW. She is a joy to fly, but still very interesting. I also really like the contrast between SPAK vs non-SPAK flight! I tried a series of landings alternating between the 2 and it was really great fun. Without SPAK there is dutch roll and plenty of nose wandering in the approach configuration (kind of like the Tomcat...:D), I love this kind of stuff! Lastly, I'm very impressed with the variety of instant action, brief missions, and training missions right off the bat. Thank you for that! Also, the brief dogfight against the F-5E is my current favorite and I'm impressed with how well the Viggen can handle the F-5 using it's superior thrust. I just have to watch my fuel, that afterburner is a monster! Overall, this module is an absolute home run! To those who haven't bought or think it's not your cup of tea....you need this thing! Don't judge a book by it's cover. :D The Tomcat is in really excellent hands! -Nick 2

The FM seems fine, and i know severalreal Viggen pilots have tested the FM and systems.
Goblin Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 I couldn't agree more, BlackLion! Especially this: The "3 position switch" feature for the RADAR and such is REALLY helpful for key binding - thank you for that! Module makers, please take note of this. :)
Corrigan Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 The quality of this aircraft really is outstanding. DCS Viggen was so hyped, especially for us Swedes who grew up on this aircraft, and STILL it's just amazing! Best DCS module so far.
