PKLockon Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I recenty upgraded to Lock On 1.1 (Flaming Cliffs and patch 1.12a). I now have some chopiness so I changed to low graphics. It was better but I got some flashes and bounced back to Windows. I also just upgraded to the latest Nvidia 93.71 driver. Could that be a problem or do I need to upgrade? Here is my system: OS: Windows XP, CPU: Intel DualCore 6300 1.86 GHz; Memory: I GHz DDR RAM; Display: Nvidia GeForce Fx 5200 w/ 256 MB; Motherboard: ECS P4M800Pro-M. Is it worth trying a better video card and/or more memory before upgrading CPU? Should the CPU be OK?
S77th-GOYA Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Usually video card upgrades are not the answer. In your case, however, it would be a good idea. Get at least a 6600GT. More system memory wouldn't hurt but you should be OK with just 1 Gig. A Conroe rig with an FX 5200 is like a Ferrari with lawnmower wheels on it.
Pilotasso Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Yes the GFX is obviously the limiting factor here. Only 1 GIG is not great either but that GFX sux badly. It should be the next priority to change. If you could find cheap ATI X800 class GFX would be ideal. But in this time of the year could be hard to find a specific item. .
Frostie Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I had a 5200fx128mb a while ago it ran reliably on low graphics but juddered a lot so I upgraded to 6800gt 'big gains' not huge though as my CPU is weak also.Still suffering when a lot of things going on with 2.4ghzCeleron. "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. Guest IguanaKing Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I don't think your motherboard is fully compatible with that 6300 processor, that may have a lot to do with some of the problems you are having.
