DD_Fenrir Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 As per the title, does anyone know if the we will be getting the 'E' type armament (2x Hispano 20mm + 2x .50 calibre) as a loadout option in the future?
Euan Emblin Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I think this is very doubtful. We were informed of the likelihood of clipped wings in the final release as an option but I don't see them moving away from the universal C wing and changing the armament. - 'The Dog's Rollocks' - [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] is a water cooled behemoth : i9 9900K@5GHz/RTX 2080Ti/32 Gb 3600MHz RAM/M.2 NVMe onboard drives/System driving Pimax 5K Plus/TM Warthog/MFG Crosswind/Gametrix Jetseat
DD_Fenrir Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) Hi Euan, Just for note the 'C' wing is the universal wing, the 'C' refers to the armament configuration rather than the wing when it comes to aircraft with universal wings. In the real Mk.IX you could, with access to the requisite cannon fairings, remove the .303s and their gun heat ducting, move the 20mm cannon to the outboard cannon position and install the .50s in the now vacant inboard cannon bay. This was the point of the 'universal wing' - to have a single design of wing able to accommodate various armament configurations with the minimum of modification. Regards our DCS Spit, one would reasonably assume that the change in modelling would be limited to relocated and designed cannon fairings (slightly shorter for the outboard gun, open ended stub for the .50) and re-calculation of effect to the FM of the redistribution of weight for the armament and ammo. Not much different then - I would assume - to the ramifications of re-calculations required for the wing-tip removal. The DM would however have to be updated accordingly for the differing location of weapons and ammo and I could not comment on whether this - two differing DMs for a single module based on load out - is possible. I would like to see it implemented if possible - the 'E' armament configuration was the preferred choice of RAF brass as of May 1944 and we see it coming into service with 2nd TAF much more just after the invasion. By the autumn of 1944 it appears the ubiquitous choice. As such it provides a more representative armament configuration for a Spitfire meeting the 109K4/190D9 opposition in late 1944 and into 1945 and allows a broader spectrum of usability for the module if we ever get some later war maps (Ardennes etc) in the future.
