Brewnix Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 @metzger I don't force Pimax or any other VR and money it self is not the problem. I will pay 1000€ if it worth it. But Rift is to expensive for what they give. And the worst part is this is it no place for improvement at all. Pimax have place for improvements because display. OSVR I see only as cheaper version of Rift not true improvements only full RGB display and price. Vive have better tracking and sharper picture but higher SDE and price. Personally I'm not interested in room scaling VR experience not even standing just seething. 3Glasses S1 Blubur is complete enigma. Specs are really promising, 2560x1440 704PPI display and display port shoving which way should VR go But there is no single proper review out there so no judgment about it yet. This will be really interesting to see it practical use in games. This is show why is Rift major reason why VR is not advancing any more and major reason why I will not support it. It is more matter of my personal principals and common good. @Wormeaten, The 3glasses specs looks awesome. I have been drooling over there site wondering about how far they are in the development, They have a section that states it steam compatible and they list DCS in the list of games as support. Is this there goal and they are not there yet. I have thought about giving my email as a interest in there product. Just curious if you did and they said DCS is not support as of yet? I am in agreement with you this HMD I believe the first thing the should of done made it compatible every where. Not stream line it to a few or proprietary game and low rez equipment. Unfortunately here is "corporate america" the standard practice is to drag the tech out over years, I call it the "milk man" theory. Think of how it works for example when the first flip cell phones came out everyone flocked to get one from there cell carriers. If the next month they launched smart phones all those years of lost revenue in upgrades of flip phones down the tubes. They drag it out to milk the consumer then offer the next upgrade. This is to make yesterday's tech pay forward for the future tech. Not for sure if its exactly the idea but it kind of makes sense why it always start small. I believe they new about smart phones along time before we as consumers did. They have there excuses I guess. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Unfortunately here is "corporate america" the standard practice is to drag the tech out over years, What does 'corporate america' have to do with it when, for example, Samsung is in South Korea? I believe they new about smart phones along time before we as consumers did. They have there excuses I guess. Knowing that smartphones were possible does not make them practical to build. A year after the first flip phone, I am sure they could have sold you a smart phone equal to today's offerings. However, you would have had to wear a backpack for the hardware and the screen resolution would have been abysmal. metzger Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 People have to realize that developing cost more money than the hardware itself. If company's does not make enough profit from their current product they won't have money for developing and creating the next one. Look at pimax, if they had successful and profitable pimax 4k, they can keep selling it until they are ready with the 8k. Then when they feel 4k is becoming obsolete and people no more buying it, they will have ready developed new product to offer and continue their work for a new product. You cant keep developing forever to reach the perfect product, you need to have profit to pay salaries and bills and it is important to announce a new product at the right time. Brewnix Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Oculus is in USA. Maybe corporate america was the wrong name to use, I guess. I have just seen a pattern living here all my life. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bobslob Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Uhh, are you serious? I am sorry but you could not possibly be more wrong. I don't get how you could make such a blatantly inaccurate statement. We see a lot of those here but this is like next level inaccuracy. You have DCS running awesome in VR with a 1080? Share the secret.
bobslob Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Interesting. My 1080 is doing fine at 4k without setting everything to low. If your comment is based on your own system, please post your specs because something is not right. As far as Pimax's kickstarter. I can't help but wonder why a company that is already producing, and selling, a product can't find anyone willing to back them without resorting to kickstarter. If their existing product were actually a good investment then they should have little trouble obtaining financing for the next generation. I'm talking about DCS in VR, not on a 4k monitor.
cichlidfan Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Which VR headset? The Rift and Vive are both running 2160 x 1200. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Torso Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) The problem is a GTX 1080 can barely play DCS at 1920x1080 with most of the settings turned down. Upping the resolution is going to cause massive performance decreases. Video card technology needs to improve remarkably for it to be viable, and probably put it out of the reach of most people due to cost. You have DCS running awesome in VR with a 1080? Share the secret. You see the problem is you did not reference VR in your comment. VR does not run in 1920x1080, and it is pretty clear it read like you were referencing monitor resolutions. Which does indeed make that statement completely inaccurate. You have now clarified you meant to be only talking about VR. I still can say you are not exactly correct in that regard either as I and others who use their Rifts/Vives with current gen hardware(current gen cpu, mb, ssd, ram, gpu..etc) can attest too as well I am sure. The thing that tanks performance the most currently is patch releases that do not seem to be tested at all in VR often from a user experience perspective. Though I am sure they are.............................I hope. Edited February 13, 2017 by Torso

Tricky11 Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 It will be years until we would be able to run 8k vr due to the hardware not being there let alone DCS being optimized for it so no point worrying about that yet. Buy a CV1 and enjoy VR now.
Torso Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 We're in the VR forum.... why would you think I'd be talking about anything else? Because nothing in your comment implied VR specifically. Especially referencing desktop resolutions vs VR resolutions. I was not alone in reading it as I did. Just because a comment is made in a thread on a topic does not always mean that comment is always 100% related to that threads topic. Happens countless times in countless threads. Thus, people needing to be steered back on topic. Sith does quite a bit of cleaning up now as a result it appears. I mean here we are discussing your post vs discussing the Pimax kickstarter campaign. :music_whistling:
