I had to replace my harddrive yesterday. I had everything important backed up on an external drive, but everything in the registry is gone (obviously).

Is there any way to deactivate my modules from the website in order to reinstall, or are those activations gone? I realize we get plenty of chances, but sh*t happens, and I'd prefer not to see the activation count tick down.

Thank you.

AFAIK, without the hardware code (which you can't get because the original hardware no longer exists), there is nothing that you can do.

cichlidfan, how do I know if my 2 purchased keys are ED's or Starforce's, I can't remember. I'm pretty sure I paid DCS for the download of A10-c. As for my FC3 which was originally Locon, FC1, FC2, I can't remember. Would my serial numbers indicate?

Starforce is the DRM solution that ED uses. Your keys are ED's and they use Starforce for authentication.

Which would apply to me?

  • ED's Activation/Deactivation manual.

OR

  • The Starforce deactivation page.

The ED manual is what you would normally use.

The Starforce page is where you would end up if, for example, you had a record of your hardware code along with the key but could not deactivate through ED because you had already wiped/replaced your system disk.

So I'm clear...first I should try and use the module manager to de-activate [only if I want to save 1 activation] from the old computer and then re-activate [i have 9 activations left] on the new computer...all through the DCS module manager.

I won't need to go to Starforce to activate because I have my serial numbers for both products which I can type in once I've downloaded the DCS software. What I don't have is a product code, where do I find that?

Don't worry about the hardware code. That is only required if you did not have access to the old machine. As long as you have your old machine available, you should be fine.

Can I get an activation credit back from my old computer if I de-activate DCS on my old computer after I install and use an activation for my new computer?
