Well it does, but it scales it back down again.

Native headset resolution is 2160x1200. Thats also the 1.0 Pixel Density render resolution.

Then if you run 1.5 PD, the rendered resolution will be (1.5x2160)x(1.5x1200), and it scales it back again to the native resolution. It gives a better image, both in terms of AA and clarity.

Same trick is very good for screenshots. Take screenshots at very high resolution, and scale it back to say 1920x1080. Much better than true 1920x1080 shot.

 

But it comes at quite the performance cost. High PD is heavy, and it makes spotting targets, be it ground or air, much harder.
