I have seen some thermal cameras and also have mounted some. They are all not affected by the weather too much if at all. In heavy fog you can see very good and this is one of their main pros.

 

Also with some very simple video analytics it can find lock and track an object within line of sight very easy and accurate.

 

I strongly believe that irl both tgp and mavericks are far more capable than what we have, especially in later suits.

No. Moisture heavily attenuates infra-red light transmission in the air, moisture and other particles such as smoke are the biggest problems on the battlefield for IR camera systems.

 

In short, while IR systems will see further through moisture/smoke than a visible light camera (smoke especially), they are still affected.
