Nvidia 8800gts + 2.6 AMD Dual Core =

Hello All,

 

I bought the 8800gts and will do some testing with Lockon. I plan to see what this card has to offer and talk about any differences noticed. Be back in a bit

Here are some thoughts. First thought right off the bat, "This thing is so much smoother and the IQ is better." Big deal, that's assumed. Here are some benchmarks and Lomac screen shots.

Lomac Settings: All Graphics Options on High, Running screen at 1680x1050, Driver setting of "Quality"... Looked for High Quality but it's not available, possible driver issue.

That's it for now... The card draws power, but it's quite and is pumping out the pixels, Drivers really need work, 2d performance is somewhat fuzzy.

 

For Lomac, I did nearly every quick mission (su-25t included) and attacked virtually all targets, at no time did I feel that it was ever going to get choppy.

And what kind of FPS increase did you get over your last v/c?

 

Yeh ATI tools works for both cards.

 

What I was getting with the 7800gt? It's hard to say, I really only ever payed attention in stessful card situations. I still need to find some stressful situations.

As it stands there is a very noticable difference. I flew some quick missions with everything on... Mirrors on to max resolution, and full shadows (fullshadows aren't as bad anymore, some ships had poor deliniation at the water line but the effect is ok now.) At any rate I had all of it on (Plus 16x AF and 8x AA) and it was derfinetley playable.

 

I just need to build an insane situation... Su-25t mission, taxi from Krasnodar and hit a dozen or so targets inside a city.

I would be quite interested in one special setting: Fly F 15 Quickstart mission, dive 90 degree to the right at sea level, fly low and (zoom max out) to the big City and when u r over it, take a screen. That is my quick reference for min fps in game. Never had less fps than there ;-)

 

If u would do me that favour, i would be gratefull.

I did the F-15 quick mission and went fo the first big city to the right.

All was set to the highest except I had mirrors off. Card was at 16x AF and 8xQ AA.

Ok... here I think his request is met. Again all is on high with 16xAF and 8xQAA (Control panel set to "Enhance application")

Here are some other notes... Online play.... The miniwar mission on the 169th server is tough on computers. With these settings I tried out something my 7800gt had real trouble with, a Krymsk taxi and takeoff in a Su-25t. At these settings the results were the same... about 8 FPS through the entire rollout.

 

IQ wise, I think i still need to look at some things and try diferent driveers, IQ has taken a turn for the worse and I think i should experiment with the CSAA stuff (http://guru3d.com/article/Videocards/391/22/)

I think in some ways you're right. Part of the impotus for getting this card were the Firing squad benchmarks (see the first page.) I thought those were going to be a poor representation of in game performance. We all know we can look at the sky and get 250fps, it is the city and heavy action stuff that really hits us hard. I just wanted to "see." No surprise that it's not a sea change.

 

However, having said that, outside of LOMAC this card is markedly awesome. I have tried Call of Duty 2, BF2142, BF2, CS, Joint Operations, FEAR and Dark Messiah (right now Ice is saying "does he really PLAY all of those games?" lol) and the FPS and IQ performance is awesome. Again, no surprise.

 

More to come, I'm the first to give a go at this card and give replicatable feedback and I'm sure I am missing some things... Do me and this thread a favor and try the very same setup... F-15 quick mission - Everything (in game and on card) on high, except mirrors - zoom all the way back and fly by the city to the right at sea level.

At that altitude with my res (1024x768 ) the screen shots aren’t doing it justice..it looks a lot better while flying but its completely unplayable at around 10 fps as you could imagine.

To run this game you didin´t need to brought that expensive card...with a 6600GT you play it at max...in this game if you use the resolutions above 1280x....

you don´t see any difference...Now invest in a C2D 6600..and your machine will rock..but also the eletrecity bills...:book:

 

Happy flyings...:pilotfly: just don´t think of OC that graphic card...if it "blows" you burn around 550€ or more...what psu do you have???

Try the new one of Intel C2D 6400...but if you wish to spen a litle more the 6600...you´ll get a significant boost in the games???wich card do you have???
