ex81 Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Hi, meanwhile I`m pretty familiar on how to use JTAC. But what is the maximum distance from where I can contact a JTAC? Getting in contact as early as possible, gives me more time to prepare for an attack. btw. Can a Huey "sitting" in the air act as a JTAC ? What goes up, must come down ! Intel Core i7-8700, 32 GB-RAM, Nvidia GTX 1060, 6 GB GDDR5, 1TB HDD, 1000 GB 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD, Windows 10/64, A10-C, VKB Gunfighter IV Ultimate, Persian Golf, F/A-18 Hornet, Tankkiller
Kang Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 btw. Can a Huey "sitting" in the air act as a JTAC ? Since the Huey isn't SADL-capable I don't think it can be a fully capable JTAC, but it most probably can act as an AFAC. It can carry illumination and smoke marker rockets and 'talk you in' via radio.
Mogs Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Depends on the radio JTAC is using. Remember there is VHF AM or FM and UHF. Using radios you must have line of sight. Otherwise no radio contact. Effective JTAC should be positioned at a high vantage point for better visibility of enemy targets and for better radio range.
Mogs Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Radio 1 or VHF AM is for mission assets mainly. Radio 2 UHF is used within your flight group and wingmen. VHF FM is mainly for JTACs
