Sven_richmond Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Hi everyone! I'm new here. I've been playing Falcon 4 for a long time and I just wanted to give Lock On an opportunity. It revealed to me as a great sim but unfortunately it seems to me that the developers've, somehow, left it behind. Is there gonna be an addon beyond Flaming Cliffs? (apart from BS, of course, that's not a addon but a new game). Any other plane, any other theater, any other game improvement?. A more realistic weather, a dynamic campaign...something? I respect people who like helos but I hate'em (helos, not people) so BS is not such great news for me. I wouldn't like to see how this great game fades away.
Shaman Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 It will not fade away. After LO:BS ED is just changing title due to some law reasons. Ubi owns "Lock On" name. AFIK in contract between ED&UBI, ED has right to use Lock On title only for two addons. That's why Black Shark is the last Lock On title. Then ED will make a brand new sim, and move all the flyable planes in it with new 6DOF cockpits and Advanced Flight Model - but it will take time. ED's sim flying and mod community seems very strong. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
Pilotasso Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Shaman, the next SIM will be AG focused. ED Gave no garauntees all LOMAC aircraft will make it in there. They may or may not, from out of the box or only in addons. Its still much hanging in the air realy. .
Shaman Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I know that, Pilotasso but I'm pretty sure there will be few addons after next title is released :) Since ED is its own publisher (via WEB) they have free hand and no rough schedules. Anyway it is such'a far future that we shouldn't even have any hopes for anything :D I'm sure we will be playing Lock On for next few years. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer

Shaman Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Yep, cuz it was not released via nUbi publisher. And it is not even mentioned on LockOn's UBI site. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
VMFA117_Poko Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Hi everyone! I'm new here. I've been playing Falcon 4 for a long time and I just wanted to give Lock On an opportunity. You won't be dissapointed. Trust me ;). I had been playing F4 for a long time. But Flight Dynamics there are really poor and everyone here will agree with me. Only thing You might be dissapointed for is lack of dynamic campaign. If You look for ultimate challenge and becoming a part of huge war-machine, try playing online. I started flying online last week. Unbelievable emotions!!! :joystick: . In first flight without any training missions I got into fighter sweep exercises (my squad tried out tactics for online match with other squadron, I flew for agressors...:megalol:) and I have to admit - I shot down my Wing Commander  so... I was promoted for squadron new Teaboy. Good advice! Learn how to IFF first!
Sven_richmond Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 I'm really glad to hear that. Thank you all for your answers! You're right, Poko 24, when you say that the filght dynamics in Falcon 4 are really poor. I like the feeling in Lock-On much more. The lack of dynamic campaign, (almost)fully functional cockpits and more complex radar modes are the only things I don't like in Lock-On. Just learning how to operate all the radar modes in Falcon 4 was rewarding enough for me :P Anyway, I like Lock-On very much and I'm really happy to know that it's not gonna disappear. (Even though the lo-mac webpage is virtually abandoned, or at least it seems to). I've played online with some friends (I never thought I was gonna enjoy so much fliyng the SU-25) and you're right when you say it's great. The graphics are (obviously) much better here than in F4 and it is a really important point if you wanna experience a total immersion. I wish they improve the weather, communications and the feeling of "alive environment" that this sim lacks of. I'm not critizising but saying some things that'd make this sim much better. On the other hand...I really love the damage model. Just a question...does anyone know if there's any thread in this forum explaining how to use all the mods in a computer in which I've installed both versions 1.02 and 1.12a? Long life to Lock-On !
VMFA117_Poko Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Yes! Download ModMan manager from here http://lockonskins.co.uk/?page=downloads&cat=45. Remember! You can not install 1.12a on 1.02!!! 1.12a only is for Flaming Cliffs (v. 1.1). For any further question please ask here. I'm sure You'll find the answer!
Sven_richmond Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 Copy! Thanks for the info! :smilewink:
Zayets Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Well, weather is pretty good in LockOn. Put some 15 m/s lateral wind and try to take off and land in SU-25T. I bet it will take more than one try to put it down with only one flat tire :D [sIGPIC]OK[/sIGPIC]
AndyHill Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Ubi has pretty much abandoned Lock on, but that doesn't mean much. The developers are working hard on BS and they're pretty active on these forums (at least on the Russian side). The criticism towards lack of dynamic campaign and communications is valid. It doesn't mean that Lock on is a bad game, but you have to acknowledge the deficiencies in order to improve. The dynamic campaign may be taken care of sometime in the future, but ED REALLY need to do something about the communications. Your wingmen can already be somewhat verbose, so it shouldn't be too difficult to implement a new feature in BS that would make all the other flights communicate during the fight. I've played some Wings over Europe and although I still prefer Lock on I just loved the atmosphere, because I could hear other flights doing their stuff and I felt I wasn't alone in the fight. Sometimes you had problems knowing if "SAM launch!" was someone else 50 miles away or your wingman, but it shouldn't be much of an issue, since ED could simply make the messages directed towards you louder. Of all the features I'd like to see in BS this might have the best cost/effect relationship. But anyway, AFAIK Lock on is far from abandoned. You just need to know where to find the information and since you're here it appears you already do. _________________________________________________________________ Lock on MUST have a dynamic campaign engine with multiplayer capability AND toe-brake functionality with differential braking AND more comms-traffic!
