Force_Feedback Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Actually, IIRC the F-111's capsule supposedly worked well, but the same concept could not work for the B-1A due to weight, and as such they went with normal ejection seats. The F-111's capsule had mechanisms to prevent or diminish ground-impact injuries. Yes, yet it exceeded the human bone fracture tolerances on impact, resulting in many severe spinal injuries, over 45G for 0.2 seconds or so, a lot at least. As I said, the theory is good, the practical application of it is not. The capsule has airbags with blow-out plugs, but as you can imagine, there is rarely no wind, resulting in an offset impact vector, so either the plugs didn't blow, or it landed on a side, transferring all that energy to the capsule frame, which then start rolling and tumbling. I'm not saying it was bad, just that it didn't work as well as designed. This vote is pointless, as there is no kh-41 for the vanilla su-33, and you can't have realistic nothingness on the plane :P Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
GGTharos Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Ahh, thanks for that info FF :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
ED Team Groove Posted November 28, 2006 ED Team Posted November 28, 2006 Im with you regarding the ASAT GGTharos ! Give us the ASAT ! Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
Guest IguanaKing Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 No, they'll model the ejection system all wrong, making the whole nose disappear and parachutes appear 1000 feet higher (yes, teleportation) :P The capsule system was nice on paper, unfortunately it proved to be less than safe for the crew :| same goes for the B-57... Did you mean the B-58? The biggest danger with that egress system was the method for severing the control cables before the clam-shell closed.
Stealth_HR Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 How about an XB-70 and A-12? :D Aye on the Valkyrie, but YE GODS NAY on the flying dorito. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Real men fly ground attack :pilotfly: where EVERYTHING wants a piece of you :D
GGTharos Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Nono, the SR-71's precursor ... armed with AIM-54 :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
504MrWolf Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 WOOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOO RUNAWAY THREAD !! :D www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk
Force_Feedback Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Did you mean the B-58? The biggest danger with that egress system was the method for severing the control cables before the clam-shell closed. And the dependance on the air bladder (aka rubber airbag) to soften the landing blow. The high alt mode was a nic one, though it makes me wonder if such a small window can actually help controlling the plane in a normal situation, without the panic and the lack of throttle control. And the capsule itself wasn't very big either, so I can imagine how it was for taller pilots, or ones that had long legs. OT, what's ot about this thread, there is no kh-41 for the su-33, so how can we get ot? Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
Guest IguanaKing Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Force, longer legs for a B-58 crew member weren't a problem for long if he ever had to eject and forgot to lift his feet before initiating the ejection sequence. :smilewink: GG, those were AIM-47s that were to be carried by the F-12, pretty close to AIM-54s. I'd love to see an F-108 in the game. :D
Stealth_HR Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Nono, the SR-71's precursor ... armed with AIM-54 :D Whoops. My bad. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Real men fly ground attack :pilotfly: where EVERYTHING wants a piece of you :D
