Hawkeye60 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Field Commanders Thoughts -------------------------------------------- Late July, France The Commander looked solemnly at the tents and dying campfires. His men were fast asleep, he hoped. Although he knew, as was true of many of his men, He would get little sleep that night. For the coming days battle would be long and brutal. The war had not gone well. His air corps was badly depleted and replacements were unlikely. Yet there was nothing to be done about it. His orders were clear. He would carry them out with the men, aircraft and whatever courage he could muster in his men in the morning. Yet the prospects for victory seemed elusive to him as the long night wore on.................. --------------------------------------------------------------- Sky Pilot Eric Burton and the Animals --------------------------- He blesses the boys as they stand in line The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine He's there to help them all that he can To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man Sky pilot, Sky pilot, How high can you fly? You'll never, never, never reach the sky. He smiles at the young soldiers Tells them it's all right He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight Soon there'll be blood and many will die Mothers and fathers back home they will cry Sky pilot, Sky pilot, How high can you fly? You'll never, never, never reach the sky. He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile The order is given They move down the line But he'll stay behind and he'll meditate But it won't stop the bleeding or ease the hate As the young men move out into the battle zone He feels good, with God you're never alone He feels tired and he lays on his bed Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said Sky pilot, Sky pilot, How high can you fly? You'll never, never, never reach the sky. You're soldiers of God, you must understand The fate of your country is in your young hands May God give you strength Do your job real well If it all was worth it Only time it will tell In the morning they return With tears in their eyes The stench of death drifts up to the skies A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot Remembers the words "Thou shalt not kill." Sky pilot, Sky pilot, How high can you fly? You'll never, never, never reach the sky. For where there is one, there is always three. I preparest my aircraft to receive the Iron that will be delivered in the presence of my enemies. Thy ALCM and JDAM they comfort me. Power was given unto the aircrew to make peace upon the world by way of the sword. And when the call went out, Behold the "Sword of Stealth". And his name was Death. And Hell followed him. For the day of wrath has come and no mercy shall be given."

Hawkeye60 Posted June 28, 2017 Author Posted June 28, 2017 Morning The morning dawned grey and damp. A constant drizzle had been falling all night and it did not help to lighten the men's spirits. He looked across the field at the men beginning to assemble for the morning brief. There was no laughter or joking this morning he saw. The mood was very solemn. After the previous days losses, many had lost friends, and the men were deeply affected. If they only knew how much pain it brought him to send them yet again into a fight that would surely bring about more death. A awful thing this war he thought. Well, no time to linger on these thoughts. He must now channel his men's sorrow into anger and courage yet again. The day had just begun. He prayed it would end well. "Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. For where there is one, there is always three. Hawkeye60 Posted June 30, 2017 Author Posted June 30, 2017 He stood next to the airstrip, awaiting his pilots return from battle. Every day he performed this task, for he felt a need to be there to welcome them back. This pained him greatly, for many would not make it home, and the ones that did were visibly shaken. He could see and hear the first aircraft approaching. Most of one wing was in tatters and the pilot was having trouble aligning to the runway. The correspondence he received from headquarters this morning had at least some good news. Replacement aircraft and pilots were coming to help. It could not had come soon enough. His command was greatly depleted. There was also rumors of a super weapon the enemy had developed. This was more than likely propaganda he thought. What a awful thing this war! It all seems so senseless. So many lives lost and for what? This crisis was triggered by a assassination of all things. It quickly spiraled out of control. Such a s waste! He shook his head is disgust. He walked to were the pilots would gather after their return to check on them. He must now put aside his thoughts. It was time to comfort and support his men. Another bloody day had come to a close. "Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. For where there is one, there is always three.
