Hellcat61 Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 I hope no one minds me requesting a new GBU-24 model. I have been playing around with the A-10's GBU capability and realized that the GBU24 and GBU15 are not up to par with the other guided weapons in this game. Is there are a better model for these two weapons currently? If not, would someone be kind enough to make one. (I do realize modeling is no light task btw). Any and all new models make this game better. "When you're out of Tomcats, you're out of fighters!"
Dice Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 The A-10 doesn't carry the GBU-24 (as far as I know it hasn't ever be tested on the A-10) and can't carry the GBU-15 because it doesn't have the capibility to carry and use the needed data-link pod to guide the weapon. Ugly but well hung!
Hellcat61 Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 I hate to resort to FAS, but I've also seen pics of the hog carrying the GBU-24. Look at the supported platforms at the bottom of the page. I know it isn't common for the hog to carry LGB's, but it is possible. I would also like a nice GBU-24 to hang from other AI jets also. The GBU-15 is electro optical, so I assume that you're correct and it cant be carried by the Hog. I guess it's limited to F-111's and F-15E's. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/gbu-24.htm Either way, nice models never hurt. Hellcat "When you're out of Tomcats, you're out of fighters!"
Guest IguanaKing Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 They are all, technically, electro-optical. ;) I think by GBU-15, maybe you were referring to the GBU-16 (1000-lb class GBU) in my A-10 mod? Yes the textures on both of those weapons leave a lot to be desired. The A-10 has carried GBU-8s (for TV-guided weapons anyway) so far, but the general concensus is that it was only for aerodynamic separation purposes in IOT&E. As for the 24, Dice has already stated he's on pain-killers for his shoulder, maybe he's mixing it up with the 28. ;)
Deadman Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Another resource http://www.danshistory.com/lgb.shtml https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Hellcat61 Posted December 23, 2006 Author Posted December 23, 2006 I think by GBU-15, maybe you were referring to the GBU-16 Correct! Forgive my mix up. The GBU-15 is TV guided though, correct? No matter which platform carries what bomb, both the GBU-15 and '24 need a new model. Frankly, the look like crap. I would like to see those bombs with upgraded models. Guest IguanaKing Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 I agree they look like s**t. I think it was Cosmo who first brought that to our attention in the "GBU's and A-10" thread. :smilewink: The GBU-16 also looks like crap compared to the 10 and 12. While I'm working on my encyclopedia and armament mods, I'm getting the feeling that the intel crew for ED wasn't exactly thorough. The radars for the S-300 system, for example, HORRIBLY SLOPPY.
Dice Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 ROFL, damn I've got to quit posting until I'm off these meds! Hellcat, you are right the A-10 can carry the GBU-24 but I've never see them do it in real life. Merry Christmas everyone and have a safe and Happy New Year! Ugly but well hung!
