SchmOEkes Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Hey, I have a problem with the shadow settings in DCS World. The problem appears as soon as I turn the shadow settings on low, mid, high or ultra and is not affected by the terrainobject shadow setting. I took screenshots to clarify the issue: https://www.pic-upload.de/view-33725527/20170710064118_1.jpg.html https://www.pic-upload.de/view-33725543/20170710010759_1.jpg.html Did anyone else experience this? Is there a known solution or any way to get something like advanced shadow options in DCS? I'm running a i5-4460 @ 3.2 GHz with 8Gb RAM, my GPU is a R9 390 with 8Gb RAM. Thanks in advance!
Mustang Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Which OS and what AMD Crimson display driver version are you running?
SchmOEkes Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 It's WIN10 64bit and Crimson ReLive Edition 17.7.2
Mustang Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Running the same except my card is an R9 380 4gb version, have you ever overclocked that 390 of yours? Might be some artifacting?
SchmOEkes Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 Nope :/ never overclocked it. The problem does also not affect the framerate/performance in any way. But I have the same problem in Rise of Flight, as soon as I turn the shadows on.
Mustang Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Quite strange, maybe you need to give the 390 a bit more power instead then? Underpowering the card can cause similar problems to overclocking, see the pic below (I run 20% all the time so the card can draw on the extra power as it needs it but i don't ever overclock)
SchmOEkes Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 (edited) Can I set that up with wattMan in the crimson settings? I never used these features actually... Edit: Oh, sorry, couldn't see the picture. I'm going to try it right now. Edited August 12, 2017 by SchmOEkes Couldn't see the attached picture
SchmOEkes Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 Hey, I just tried you proposal, unfortunately it did not solve the issue. But I really appreciate that you are trying to help :)
SchmOEkes Posted September 4, 2017 Author Posted September 4, 2017 Hey, I just started to try out older versions available on steam, and with the latest 32bit build (Version 1.2.16.43180) everything just works fine, no problem with the shadows. However, I can still see the black boxes (as shown in the screenshots linked in my first post) for something like a second after I exit the loading screen and start the mission, but then they disappear.
72westy Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Be sure that the 'Disable fullscreen optimizations' is check marked under the compatibility tab after right clicking on the DCS shortcut.
