1. Start windows task manager

2. Go to process tab

3. Start DCS.exe wait until it has finishing loading up

4. Go to windows task manager and observe DCS.exe CPU utilisation (should be low)

4. Go back to DCS.exe , Click Mission Editor

5. Stick a plane or 2 down in editor with a couple of way points

6. Go to windows task manager and observe DCS.exe CPU utilisation (should be pretty high - saturating 1 CPU core quad core)

7. Quit mission editor and go to main menu (CPU utilisation should be low again)

Interesting, but I don't quite see the problem. Is it slow for you or are you experiencing any issues or did you just noticed CPU utilization?

One thing I would try is to disable overclocking and just run native 4GHz,

Mine is i7-6700K @ 4 Ghz and I don't see any problem BUT I must admit I never looked at CPU utilization as my DCS runs like a charm.

Anyway, is there any problem with the performance at all?

I was wondering if anyone else had the same thing happening if they are in the editor, wondering if this might be related to the problems in MP with stuttering and lag as described here -> https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=192541

Do you get high CPU utilisation in the editor as described in post #1 ?

Isn't utilization a total % of CPU usage overall all threads, thus the more threads the less the total utilization will be at? Mine was sitting between 5% and 10% while trying what Johnny Rico suggested to test it. I opened up a mission with 800 units and it was sitting at 12-15%. Of my active threads they were only peaking at 60% total usage, granted I had a lot of other stuff open at the time.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Thanks for replying Grimes , I just thought it odd that the DCS exe would be using so much CPU power , when doing nothing

It was sitting at 25%ish (In task manager CPU column against DCS.exe) which means it was going full throttle on one of my CPU cores , I just thought it a bit weird that just having the editor open would use so much

The mission editor takes a lot of CPU power, unnecessary.

This is really annoying.

The mission editor consumes unnecessary CPU power, dragging batteries on laptops.

This is an issue existing for a looong time now.

This is the CPU load of DCS just running the mission editor...

afbeelding.png

My machine has 4 cores, 8 logical.

So CPU load is about 12 for DCS, which is one (logical) core.

When running the ME on a machine with 2 cores, you'll see about 50% CPU load.

Seems to be a valid issue according to me!
