Damage effects on spit updated (flames in cockpit)?

I saw flames inside my cockpit for the first time today. has this been around for a while, or is it new?

yesterday i saw an spitfire online. flying home with completely removed wings. just the fuselage was left. burning left and right and the guy managed to fly miles home and land. i guess there is something broken with the visual effects
