Doesn't make a sense ;) well in case you navigation sustem fails, you always know your cardinal bearings from that magnetic compass. Even A320s and 737s have magnetic compasses with all their fancy navigation, ADIRS, etc... My educated guess would be there was not enough space in the cockpit for it.
