So I’m super pumped for the upcoming harrier, and am watching preview videos for the third and fourth time when I noticed something. Let me preface by saying I completely understand all things alpha/beta and do not normally ask questions like this about modules that are not even released. Since Razbam has been great about communicating about what is WIP I’d figure I’d give it a go.

In each of the videos that have been released I noticed that the “cross” that is supposed to indicate the camera gimble limits is always in the same place. I seem to remember the Maverick symbology being a bit off even in the A-10C but I do remember the cross giving the pilot a decent idea as to how the camera is oriented toward the target.

I’m not going to pretend I have a lot of technical knowledge on the subject, so this half inquiry and half observation. Is this something in the works or is it just the way it is? Thanks.

Obligatory pic from the manual with the cross in the same spot.

Yes, that´s wrong and/or WIP on the AV-8.

The cross is essential to aim correctly the Maverick through the keyhole:

At least this is simulated in A-10C. (And the comparisons are inevitable between modules)

I hope they give some love to avionics.

The cross shows where the missile is actually pointing at. The invisible keyhole indicates the launch limits for the missile.

The missile seeker can slew wider than the missile can follow. That allows you to select a target without having to point the aircraft at it. But after a target lock you must maneuver the aircraft until the cross is inside the keyhole, otherwise the missile will miss.

The cross is not needed for target lock.

It is required for firing the missile within its launch parameters.

Yes. The cross is still WIP.

The aperture of the tracking gate indicates if the lock is good or not. If it is big then the missile lock is not good.
