Transferring modules between versions without losing activations

Hi all,

Currently running 2 alpha. When time comes to either upgrade or fresh install 2.5, will there be a way to transfer my modules to it without losing any activations?

Thanks

Yes.

Modules are activated "per computer", not "per installation" or "per dcs version". So if you have activated modules on your computer and install 2.5 (or update an older dcs version to 2.5), the 2.5 module manager will prompt you to install all your modules right away.

(De-)Activation is only necessary if you change your computer DCS is running on (or modify it so much that the DRM thinks that it is a new/different system).

Hopping on this because I can't find it posted in a sticky... which version of the game is being updated to 2.5?

Which version of the game should I be purchasing modules for? Looking at the shop, everything there is no longer Steam-compatible, so everything being sold right now is incompatible with the "live" version of the game, relegated to beta/alpha 1.5/2.1 only.

So what happens with the modules I buy right now? Do I have to purchase these modules twice?

Presently seeking squadron.

According to todays newsletter no current versions of DCS will update to 2.5. Whatever version you have will be used to copy modules over to the new install though.

The simplest way to avoid confusion with stand alone or Steam is to buy modules where you downloaded DCS. Many of the older modules can be bought on Steam and transferred to stand alone but that's something Steam should be making clear and no stand alone module can be used with Steam.

Your statement implies you think Steam is the only release version(live). There is a release version for stand alone and Steam.

I naturally deactivated them all before uninstalling when moving from Win7 to Win10 on a different storage device, even tho it's the same PC, the storage device isn't the same so I didn't even try without deactivating, it's not that complicated just takes a reminder about it but you also need to remember all the modules and browse through them all to run the utility.

Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, P-47, FC3, SC, CA, WW2AP, CE2. Terrains: NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf, Syria
