Need a little monitor advice

Recommended Posts

So, I recently got a new system - not just for DCS, but who am I kidding, it's for DCS. Here's the basic specs: Core i7 8700k, GTX 1080 Ti, 32gb 3000mhz DDR4 RAM, M.2 SSD. It runs DCS great on my humble 1080p 60hz monitor, as long as I go easy on the post fx things like deferred shading and DOF and whatnot.

So, I think I would like to upgrade to a Gsync-equipped 144hz monitor (those are good things, right?) but I am wondering if I should stick with 1080p or go to 1440p. If, given the specs, 1440p will impose no serious penalty, then I would do that, but, at least as I approach DCS, as long as an minimum acceptable level of visual prettiness is achieved, framerate is everything, and I could live with 1080p to preserve it. 4k, multi-monitor, and VR are out of the question at the moment, so it's strictly a 1080p vs. 1440p for DCS with this specific computer kind of question.

One other consideration - does the monitor resolution have much of an impact on seeing distant targets? It seems like the obvious answer would be "yes" but as always, I'm sure there's plenty of things I haven't thought of.

Thanks for any insights!

Hi there, Sure 1440p is just awesome and given your system specs, you will be able to pull it off; but 1080p will give you higher FPS than the 1440p.

I personally haven't ever flown at 1440p but I can vouch that spotting targets at a distance of about 25-30kms is not a problem at all with 1080p 144hz monitor.

I'd recommend that you go for a curved monitor - more immersive!

Take care!

I have a similar spec to yours and I am runing the Asus 34" 3440 x 1440

with Gsync @ 100FPS, FPS is pretty decent in DCS

If it dips the Gsync will help hide it

144Hz Gsync -->> Way to GO :)

Imho 27" is the sweetspot for dpi and WQHD. Any bigger needs 4k res imho. Johnny Rico's model may work, its just a bit wider left/right but same height ( 1440 ).

You will love it !
