Alicatt Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 (edited) Okay, who's old enough to ID those "colour videotape cartridges" at 2:12? What's that piece of cutting edge technology called? Most likely a Sony 3/4" UMatic they were introduced to the consumer market in 1971, tho in our company we used Philips N1500 then later a N1700 which to be honest wasn't as good as the Sony system https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-matic Edit: U-Matic was the format that a lot of TV studios used and it was constantly updated and still in use until the late 1990s, Sony's Betamax was a cut down version of the U-Matic system, Philips and Grundig went off to make the V2000 system that worked like an audio cassette in that you could flip the tape over and record on the other side, it was actually a very good system but expensive. The other Japanese manufactures got together and set a standard for home VCR called Video Home System or VHS, it was not as good quality as Betamax or V2000 but they flooded the market, then the porn industry adopted it and so it became the de facto standard.
