Nah I don't want to push my luck that sounds fine especially for now! I have boosted the fan to turbo and I suppose I could set it to its highest settings if you think it would help temps? Do you think its a safe/stable overclock reaching that max temp? I mean I don't now when gaming how often and for how long it would reach that temperature. The temps now idle are at 25 degrees...

By the way in order to get these optimizations/overclock does Ai suite need to be running or will it have altered the computers settings to always run at these clock speeds now?

Thanks a lot for the help man that was pretty easy!

Downloaded 'core temp' will keep an eye on in game temps!

My max temps running DCS are 60C on watercooling. 70 is fine for gaming, I would not like to run 70C 24/7 but its well within its thermal limits. You can load that 5.0 Ghz overclock for gaming or other applications that would benefit and go back to default when your done. Then you get a cool system and an overclock when required (also better for the planet unless your on Solar)

Just click on the overclocked profile and load it, when finished you can then reset. AFAIK the o/c will stay even after reboot unless you default it back in AI suite

How exactly do I turn the profile on and off?

In the screenshot that box you show is not full screen, scroll down to the bottom it has Save, load and default buttons

My temps at least according to AI suite 3 don't seem to be rising above 40 degrees when playing DCS. Do you play DCS with group tuning or just one core by the way? I thought I heard someone say DCS only uses one core anyway?

Group tuning. DCS uses 2 cores 1 for audio IIRC and the other for game. Also it feels snappier when all cores are running the same speed. Possibly with the CPU lassoo app you could tie it to the fastest cores ?

I'm trying to learn about project lasso now! Downloaded and watching a few vids about how to use it. I used it on my old computer trying to get rid of the steam background flashes but without much luck!

I set DCS and BOS to high performance mode. So I should just select the CPU affinity and when playing DCS set it to turn off 4 cores and leave two open?

Well I tried this and computer didn't seem to like it even got some background flashes on 1.8 but it may just have been a sudden spike from fiddling with the settings! Seems to run much better on multi core though! I put all my windows processes on one core and allocated the rest for DCS.

Do you thing considering my temps don't generally go above 40 degrees there will be plenty of head room for a bigger OC in the future?

Sure I imagine it will be capable of more, but have you got a PSU capable of delivering a stable current? What voltage is it when your running this overclcok?

Will check later. I've found with high performance process lasso settings the CPU runs at about 50-60 degrees which is already a bit rich for my blood. Limiting the OS to one core and DCS to the rest produced instability so I wont be messing around with core affiliates again!

Can I ask you a question... When you are on the mission editor map screen and you use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out are you getting a lot of flashes?

I'm pretty sure everything looks normal. What exactly does this flashing look like?

TBH Project lassoo is for people with underpowered rigs. If you can get good FPS in DCS with no judders or stutters then just consider yourself blessed and enjoy your machine;)

You're totally right man, I kind of wanted to get an overclock as I bought the cooler specifically, but I fell into the same trap I was talking about in the OP, and started thinking more about the god damned FPS than just enjoying the game! No more of this, I am just going to start enjoying what I've got before karma decides to punish my ingratitude by blowing my CPU up! I did get a nice boost from that OC for heavy load missions like Clear Tkvarcheli (or the beginning of that mission) though!

Ah maybe you have a rift so you've never had to put up with those flashes. Vive has a system where when you drop frames you momentarily flash out of VR and can see the steam background, or if its a really big drop you might see a loading screen. Even on my system now on the badly optimized 1.8 DCS when you begin a mission for the first time, and all the assets have to load up you will see this flash though its not really a big deal when the level itself is loading as its not really in game.

It was the bane of my life on my old system though and I am pretty sure its CPU related. On the menu screens on my old system if I zoomed with the mouse wheel it would be a total flash fest, and especially explosions/crashes could make the problem occur which in VR was very immersion breaking. These flashes were really the whole reason I upgraded, and I am glad to say I don't have to worry about them any more!

Well guys I loaded optimized defaults in the bios and uninstalled Ai suite 3! I feel much better about it too, and after flying over Vegas can honestly say I couldn't really see any difference. I found a setting in the bios that can sync all cores to 5ghz which will run at 50 degrees (under load) with a few 60 degree spikes, but I wont be running such settings any time soon.
