I'm hoping someone with a bit of experience hosting MP missions can help me answer a few questions.

As far as performance goes... is there much of a difference between static and active ground units?

I'm trying to make a mission as performance friendly as possible, as not to cause undo lag.

I realize lots of moving ground units can cause lag and issues in multiplayer, but does an active ground unit alone in the forest cause more performance issues than a lone static unit?

Also, am I able to go bananas placing static objects on the map, or should I be conservative with them? Does anyone have a rough estimate of how much content you can have on the map? (As far as AI planes, ground units, ect?)

Modules: A10C, AV8, M2000C, AJS-37, MiG-21, MiG-19, MiG-15, F86F, F5E, F14A/B, F16C, F18C, P51, P47, Spitfire IX, Bf109K, Fw190-D, UH-1, Ka-50, SA342 Gazelle, Mi8, Christian Eagle II, CA, FC3

Guides are impossible because it depends on hardware, connections, types of units, what the units are doing(whilst stationary).

Also, it doesn't just fall apart at a magic number. It starts with little lag spikes at processing bursts, some users might complain, some might be OK.

You can only try and do your own testing like we all do.

As for the question....does your unit have radar?

Statics don't generally cause any performance hit before three figures. After that might be down to visuals and density of placement.

Thanks.

I did a few tests on my end. I guess you can basically go bananas on static objects. I was able to place almost 3000 with no noticeable performance hit in game (The f10 map suffered a bit, but otherwise seemed pretty stable).

I'm toying around with placing a few active units mixed with "dummy" static ones to make the map look a bit more busy.

Is it still the case that I can have hundreds and hundreds of statics and it won't much affect MP performance or lag?
I presume static's are not sent as network traffic besides initial load?
