This has been a problem since forever really I think, but its especially noticeable in VR on Viggen missions where heavy bombings seem to lag the game hard. I used to think it was just my old rig but since getting a new more powerful computer have realized that its actually just the game!

Otherwise DCS performance is better than its ever been (and looks fantastic) but is there any word if developers are aware of this problem with a fix in the works? Damned shame to go to 2.5 with this still plaguing the engine. No amount of lowering graphics settings seem to solve this problem and missions with too many of these bombings going on are too stuttering to enjoy properly.

Is it possibly related to the memory problems DCS is having?

On my new rig I only ever seem to get steam VR loading background flashes if the game or some background program is needing to load something up. These bombings do the same thing its as if I am turning on an application in game- like my jet seat which does the same thing for example (will cause steam VR flashes in game when first loading up).

Dcs is in beta and they’ve stated that they’re working on optimisation, eg their comments on the memory leak fix and the longer term plan for vulkan. Not sure what else you’re expecting?

I didn't realize my post came off as so spoilt and entitled! I simply asked if the devs were aware of the problem and working on a fix...

Hey, nps man.

You’re right to raise the query, just conscious that ED have bigger fish to fry at the moment. Probably worth asking again when 2:5 is bedded in and running smoothly for most users.

Sounds perfectly fine to me. The very purpose of those subforums is obviously to report such problems in beta versions, they are meant to the devs or who reports to them.

What is not fine is other people who feel entitled to claim nothing should be reported or said because it's a beta; unless they give helpful information those posts have no place here IMHO. Just don't pay attention :) Hopefully that won't spoil the thread and you'll get a reply or see the problem as [reported].

I think this might be more of a Viggen issue. In general, the viggen seems to have much lower framerates and tends to stutter for me, with lag from things like rocket volleys. On the other hand, i've played the same mission with rocket armaments on the mirage, su-33, a-10a, su-25 and they've all seemed pretty smooth to me. It used to be an issue on all modules for me until I switched to a ssd.

Lots of bombs is the one thing that effects my fps more than any other single thing. It is temporary... but boy is it substantial!

Example - During the "FC3 f15 caucus intercept instant action mission" when all the bombs go off on the airfield (about 20 explosions lasting about 5 seconds or so, my fps goes from a steady 110+ to about 20-25 for the duration of the bombs going off (if I am right nearby and looking at the detonations, if I am at altitude and looking away the drop in fps is much less severe but still very noticeable even with gsync, down to about 55-65 for the duration of the detonations)

The next biggest impact is having the cockpit mirrors active. About 15 or even 20 fps.

The last thing would be AA. I currently run 2xmsaa from in-game and fxaa on in the nvidia cp. That seems to be the best bang for buck for me.

All other settings are completely maxed and have no effect on the overall performance at all regardless of the level.

Wish there was a way to minimize explosion load on the system as well as the cockpit mirrors. I would happily choose LOW on both of those if it were an option.

Cheers
