045 Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Carrying slung cargo with the Ka-50, while in stable flight the cargo appears to jump, as if it is interacting with something more solid than wind. This is my first foray into cargo hauling so I am unsure if this is normal or a known issue. I have tried to show the jumping cargo in the attached screenshots. The reasons I first thought this might be a bug is because of the unattached appearance of the cargo hook model.
159_Archer Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Hi 045, from your external screens your speed is way too fast. I use the Mi-8 for sling-loads and even in that you have to be carefull -no faster than 150kmh at most and best is to be less than that. In real life your slung load will have the aerodynamics of a brick at best, it will have a 'mind of its own' and start being awkward! 045 Posted February 15, 2018 Author Posted February 15, 2018 Thank you for the quick reply. Ok that would make sense and could explain the jumpiness of the cargo. I just wouldn't have expected it to jump forwards. Do you think that is why the model of the sling is flickering, disconnected from the rest of the apparatus? It was a 1025kg load.
Skarp Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 I’ve seen the thing jump too. There is something going on unrelated to aerodynamics. It acts like your helo lagged and the cargo did not lag with it. Now it’s behind the helo and jumps back at you.
