Not sure if this is known or not but there seems to be an image alignment issue with the FLIR and actual objects.

 

In the screenshot I am using the Helmet Mounted NVG and the FLIR and as you can see there is a ghost plane below the actual KC130.

Even so, there is maybe a 2ft vertical distance between your eye point and the sensor, that distance would cause about 1 degree of angular difference at 100ft, 0.1 degree at 1000ft. This is way less than what we see in the HUD. I'm guessing the FLIR projection in the HUD is not quite placed correctly or the FLIR sensor on the aircraft needs to be angled differently. Or possibly a combination of both.

 

It would only cause big differences like we see in sim when the object is much closer to the FLIR sensor.
