AMD's Radeon settign doesn't see DCS = FPS not limited = overheating

Greetings

I have noticed few hard crashes on 2.5 Open Beta

After some investigation i found it was GPU overheating.

I knew about R9 390 being bit hot :smilewink: while playing games.

I solved this issue in other games by:

- setting up custom fan speed profile

- setting a frame limiter in Radeon settings for 60 FPS

However for some reason DCS is not detected automatically by the software, neither is it respecting global radeon settings.

For example in 1.5 i used morphological filtering as a form of cheap AA But in 2.5 it is also not applied.

So DCS essentially became a furmark :) on my pc .....runs at max fps it can and burns and burns until system just stops due to overheating.

What i tried

1)V-Sync works, but !

It is causing lot of stutter during lowflight :(

2)Creating autoexec.cfg (with proper coding) in my

x:\Users\<YOUR-LOGIN>\Saved Games\DCS\Config\autoexec.cfg

as instructed in graphics_readme.txt

and writing this line in it.

"options.graphics.maxfps = 60"

And i sadly have to report it absolutely 100% doesn't work. :)

3)So i became a naughty boy and did exactly what i was told in "graphics_readme.txt: not to do...

And edited game file "DCS World\Config\Graphics.lua" and the line "maxfps = 180;"

to smaller value of 60

This seems to solve my problem. But the issue is still there waiting for others.

You have to manually find the DCS.exe file in the Radeon Settings Manager. It will be in Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS Open Beta\bin. Add that as a profile in Radeon settings by using the browse feature. After that, you should be able to make the changes you need and they should apply (though there are some anomalies with DCS that I've been trying to figure out). Also, Morphological Filtering will not enable unless the game is in full screen. DCS often doesn't correctly open in full screen mode so you'll probably have to use the "right ALT+Enter" combo to manually put it in full screen.

Same experience as above. I have to Alt+Enter to get it to fullscreen after I crank up DCS for the frame limiting to become active from my ATI settings.

Option B:

- Install MSI Afterburner (it's free)

- On the profile, set a max temp of whatever you like, let it do all the work

It's a whole lot easier than what you've already mentioned.

Having had a 1070 fry itself, I now do this for my current GPU and have mine limited to 75degrees. I read of people running them a good 15 degrees hotter, so I assume that's a reasonable safety limit.

7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Oh i use asus utility for fan speed settings based on temperature.

I guess it is the pretty much same thing.

My profile works fairly well unless i "burn it" with synthetic benches. With likes of furmark (and non fps limited games) after a while the heat accumulates and it will just crash itself to prevent damage.
