R27-ER proximity within 10m - AMRAAM is +40m

To avoid an unnecessary debate that has been triggered many times:

- Everyone that shot ER`s or avoid it, knows what that means.

- Everyone that shot AMRAAM`s or avoid it, knows what that means.

 

My simple question to ED is: Why?

IIRC the offical range of the R-27 series proximity fuse was 11m, the AMRAAM's might be more. The actual range depends a lot on what angle the missiles passes, how reflective the aircraft is and so on. In my opinion an R-27 should trigger well over 11m against something like an F-15 but that's just me.

All russian A2A missiles must be 30m.;) ...I don`t know about AMRAAM`s.

If I remember this is to model the AMRAAM's directional warhead. The AIM-120 is a newer missile than the R-27, I wouldn't expect them to be on par with each other.
