speedbird5 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Hi, Can anyone tell me what the S with a circle around it means on the HUD. See image below.
dotChuckles Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Search radars. That is your RWR HUD symbology. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
speedbird5 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Thanks. So are they hostile radars or any radars ?
dotChuckles Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Thanks. So are they hostile radars or any radars ? Any search radar. Known radar sets will have the appropriate symbol eg (27) for Su27/Mig29 (16) for F-16 etc etc. I believe the (S) should change to a symbol for a known EWR type, but I could be wrong on that. The upshot is, you have to interpret the symbols and decide if it's hostile or not based on what you expect to be facing. This can become interesting in a coalition type scenario where both sides are fielding similar radars. Then you will have to rely on direction signal strength and some tactical witchcraft. speedbird5 Posted March 14, 2018 Author Posted March 14, 2018 Thanks Chucles. Do you have a reference for the symbology? I looked in the pocket guide and could not find it.
dotChuckles Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Thanks Chucles. Do you have a reference for the symbology? I looked in the pocket guide and could not find it. I don't sorry. It's usually fairly self explanatory though. (6) for SA6 (HA) for Hawk sites etc etc. (U) for unkown I think. Aircraft (23) Mig23 (27) Mig29/Su27 (same radars I believe) (15)(16)(18) US fighters etc. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
dotChuckles Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Not sure if all of that's applicable to the currently modeled harrier, but useful none the less. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Dave317 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 That list isn't completly accurate. Mig 29's show up as 29 and mirages show as M2.
speedbird5 Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Is that from the official Pocket guide or some other document?
