Ernst Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Hi , I found out that the HUD range scale of the EO sensor of the SU33 in FC3 is in 10 KM and not changable by using Rctrl + -/+ Like in the radar sensor!According the manuals you should be able to change the distance in the HUD.With Regards
Schmidtfire Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I might be wrong but I think it has to do with the laser-rangefinder on Su27 / 33. The IRST don't have the range that the radar has. And it is probably way better and reliable in DCS then IRL. Im pretty sure it is made only for very short ranges for covert attacks or in heavy ECM environment.

The range finder is there yes up to 10km in optimal situations for a gun or when doing air-to-ground attacks. But it is as well required to be adjusted for the IR-missile launches. And it just doesn't allow to launch IR missile passively when target is over 10km. You should be able to set approximated range for the target to get the missile off. But you as well get the ranging by the flight triangulating it over datalink. We are seriously lacking the Su-27 capabilities in radar and IRST capabilities they should have for stealth and long range engagements. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Velik Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 IRL OEPS-27 has 2 modes: large tracking and small tracking sight (on pic) with no range scale. Range: 5-10km - front hemisphere; up to 50 km - rear hemisphere. OEPS can be used in addition to the radar or as a main channel Спойлер Wishlist: MiG-31BM, An-72P, YaK-38M, A-5 Vigilante, Textron Scorpion, YaK-3, He-162
WildBillKelsoe Posted May 26, 2018 Posted May 26, 2018 there is no laser rangefinder with fighters except those multiroles equipped with a Klen-PS rangefinder. The IRST is meant for sneak attack with R-73 or R-27T/ET IR seekers. The range is not much because you have a radar that sees much further out. Basically it was to scan with radar first, then get picture and turn it off, when established with contact you switch IRST for short range tracking without alerting RWR of the enemy. I could be wrong, but its better to hear what Ironhand has to say. AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

The Su-33(Su-27, MiG-29 etc) do have a laser rangefinder in combination with the EOS, but its short ranged(IIRC some 8 km) and for longer range the radar is employed(short bursts). JJ

The radar HUD display reads in azimuth and range (top down) where as the EOS HUD display reads in azimuth and elevation (face on, not range). So what you're seeing in the HUD with EOS is not a top down view like the radar but a face on view of any heat signatures picked up, it doesn't need a range setting.
