Kaned Dragon Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Hi I'm new to the Mi-8 I've started equipping the side and rear gunner but they don't appear to be doing anything. I assumed they would target and shoot any enemy I fly near. Do i need to set up an option in the mission editor or something? Also the textures on the gunners is wrong. It's that green and black checkered default material that appears when the game can't find the textures. Is anyone else having this bug. If not then I need to do a reinstall. Thx
SnorreSelmer Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 By default the Gunners don't engage enemy targets. You have to tell them to either return fire or fire at will. The "gun-panel" default keybind I believe is RAlt+RShift+K. For the door gunner, you control burst length (long/short) with LShift+LWin+4, and fire mode (hold/return/free) with LCtrl+LWin+4. I don't use the rear gunner much because it's only a 7.62mm gun, an it blocks the operation of the rear doors. Art-J Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 These idiots can't hit a side of a barn anyway, so don't worry, you either will stop using them soon, or you will operate the gun yourself :D. As for the textures problem, you didn't write which game version you use, but in either case, as mentioned above, if it isn't just a bug, but something you broke by using mods, then repair command should fix it. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
SnorreSelmer Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Tried them recently Art-J? Belsimtek improved the gunners a while back, so they aren't completely useless now. ;) Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk ASUS Z170-P w/ Intel i7-7700, 32GB DDR4 RAM, SSDs out the wazoo and a GTX 1080Ti, Oculus Rift CV1, TM Warthog stick and throttle, TM Cougar MFDs, MFG Crosswind pedals and WheelStandPro Warthog (w/ the custom small Warthog plate) Former F-16 Ground Crew @ RNoAF [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Holton181 Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 The "gun-panel" default keybind I believe is RAlt+RShift+K. It's LWin+H in both Mi-8 and Huey, otherwise correct. The keybinds are under "Gunners AI Panel" in Options->Controls Helicopters and Viggen DCS 1.5.7 and OpenBeta Win7 Pro 64bit i7-3820 3.60GHz P9X79 Pro 32GB GTX 670 2GB VG278H + a Dell PFT Lynx TrackIR 5

Thanks, I've lost track of what I've rebound, but that one I thought I had left alone.. ;) Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk ASUS Z170-P w/ Intel i7-7700, 32GB DDR4 RAM, SSDs out the wazoo and a GTX 1080Ti, Oculus Rift CV1, TM Warthog stick and throttle, TM Cougar MFDs, MFG Crosswind pedals and WheelStandPro Warthog (w/ the custom small Warthog plate) Former F-16 Ground Crew @ RNoAF [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk Cheers dude :) it worked. and apart from my bad flying I think they some effect. Need some more practice but it's nice to hear them fire. And yes it's very irritating that the back door doesn't open if one uses the rear gunner. Since I can still get troops on board and so far I've been able to drop them off, i'll keep that back side gunner as a back up. Not because he gives me some added confidence, no, not at all ;-) But yes I can't help but wander how that would work in real life. I'm telling myself that side gunner simply moves the gun for a moment as they board. Thanks again dude. I got to say I'm really enjoying the Mi-8. It's nice to play back up and logistics a bit. The more I've played DCS the more I've needed to look into these real life planes and heli's and learn how to use them. I find Youtube is where I usually start looking, and because of the auto play function in youtube, I've ended up learning more about how complex it is for military's to just move troops and equipment. I'm start really appreciating how a transport unit can be very useful. And yes Win + H for the Menu. Shift or Crtl + Win + 4 for the, stay dumb, or shoot back options lol
SnorreSelmer Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Grunts can't do their shooting unless they are where they're needed, nor if they lack ammo. Transport helicopters take care of that. And if they need a quick getaway, transport helicopters do that too.
