idenwen Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 I trying to make some Harrier missions and stumbled upon some strange behavior and maybe some of you have already a solution for that. - AI Harriers always try to VTOL regardless of payload, even when they have the biggest runway available. They sit there with 99% thrust until the have burned enough fuel to be light enough but never try a normal runway takeoff. - AI Harriers drop their gunpod when engaged in A2A combat - even if they have no IR missiles. But the gunpod has the A2A mode I thought so it should stays on the Harrier as weapon? - Choppers placed on the Tarawa to start at the same time as the Harriers (2x Harrier, 1x UH-60) spawn hovering on the spikes on the front left side of the carrier and start there like normal. Harriers stay despawned until the chopper left the deck. Or the Harriers spawn first and the chopper later on the same strange spot. Even if there is enough room on the flight deck for all three crafts. Ideas? (Except to wait for patches?)
JLX Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I also tried putting a Harrier in a simple test mission to fly straight and level at 350 kts to practice formation flying and found it would always fly as fast a possible (~550+) regardless of speed settings. 3570K w/ 16GB, 1070 w/ 8GB @ 1440p, VKB Gunfighter/MCG-Pro & T-Rudder Mk.IV, CH ProThrottle, TrackIR 5, HTC Vive, UniversRadio, VoiceAttack, TacView Pro, DCS Menu Nav F/A-18C, F-5E, F-86F, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, UH-1H, Mi-8MTV2, Ka-50, SA342, P-51D, Spitfire Mk.IX, Bf109, Fw190, FC3, CA, Persian Gulf, NTTR, Normandy, WW2 Assets
Pikey Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 You can forece AI not to dump anything or parts thereof in the advanced actions of the waypoints in the mission editor, not sure, it might be called out as a bug in itself. For the rest I've seen it all, there's a lot of AI issues with the harrier and Tarawa. RepoMan Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) I’m glad I found this. I spent a couple hours planning an AI unit routes (Harriers) and they act very broken. I too set perimeters for formations\follow. They sometimes slow to stall speed and randomly fall out of the sky. It’s like they go from fast straight flight to hover. I know for sure they cant really take off properly certically or feom a runway. 2. I’m not sure if this a Harriet problem yet, but I set specific engagement zones for them. They engage targets way outside of them. They expend their entire mission payload on the wrong target. Maybe I need to add a ROE option. Jettison: this is a problem with most AI. I have watched A-10c jettison a perfectly good bomb for a gun run. So most the time I add the jettison -x option. Hawk 09 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I also got problems with the AI Harriers taking off from TARAWA. They take off quite normal (not vertical), fly their route to the airfield, make their final and then suddenly getting kind of trapped in a low and slow forward hover until they crash into the next obstacle. There seems to be a bug in the landing procedure. The other planes I tested as comparison are all working fine. For the Viggens I even didn´t give them the landing waypoint, just some flyby waypoints and for Tornados I only gave them the command to start from parking position. Both the Viggens and the Tornados are landing fine (even without command) while the Harriers always crash even with the landing waypoint. Anyone made similar experiences?
