^Just discovered that after my super glue-ing experience yesterday some keys are glued together, I see a great potential in this technique in the cheating community. They can jump, while reloading a gun and throwing granades at the press of one key, without any software.

I feel tarded, and happy at the same time, happy because I ddin't glue my hand to a door knob, or any other knob.

OK, now I understand what's going on. Masorin was inspecting the Pacific Fleet's boomers and touring the major military and industrial centers of the far east. These things are always coupled with lots of promises for growth and so on, much like the announcement to build more Ka-50s came around when Ivanov toured around Arsenyev. We'll see how much of the following actually comes true:

1) Build a domestic NITKA base before 2010.

2) Build two new bases on the Kamchatka Peninsula "in the near future," one for the Borei class boats and the other to collect up all of the surface vessels.

3) Begin construction of the new carrier(s) "after 2015," until which time the Kuznetsov will remain the only carrier in service (mainly to maintain the 'know-how' of carrier aviation).

The plan ("20-30 years" down the line) is to operate 2 carrier groups, one for the Northern Fleet and one for the Pacific. Each group is to have three carriers - one at sea, one preparing for rotation and one in dock.

Yeah, IMHO, nothing especially trustworthy.

Thanks for the link.

As always, we can take the dates with a grain of salt (a rock-sized grain), but nice to see that there are some kind of plans being made.

Now that we are on the subject, any links for the Luna system in Russian, I'd like to know more about it. Read a while ago about the Su-33 and Su-27KUB in a magazine, but they only said that there were automatic alnding systems, one of which was optical (laser) based. The Luna on the Kuznetson, not the moon probes :P

The aviaport link does have info that others lack. And since most of these texts are copied form one and other I thought it may contain some useful info. Heh, I should start discovering the Russian language part of the Internet.

Well you know how it is with rumours :) .

But then I wouldn't exclude the possibility either - with the "Indian order" there is now is a fully developed up-to-date MiG-29K/MiG-29KUB combo available + a production line in place, which needless to say makes it a lot more feasible than earlier for the Russian navy to consider the MiG-29K.

Moreover, with both Russia and India placing orders the initial costs of development and production line setup would be spread over a larger number of airframes and thus help to reduce cost per unit for both parties.

Agreed, I say give the naval business to MiG and let Sukhoi hog Russia's land-based combat aircraft market with the Su-34, Su-27SM/BM and PAK-FA, like they are already doing anyway. RSK MiG OTOH is currently surviving almost exclusively on a steady trickle of minor export orders (hopefully a major one will follow in the Indian MRCA competition, they'd certainly deserve to win that one) and the smaller MiG-29K does seem more sensible for a future Russian CVBG.

Put the kit from the MiG-35 in the domestic MiG-29K and you have what amounts to a miniature Super Hornet, with better raw performance. Quite a respectable fighter, but for the love of god, give the single seater a proper canopy again - pretty please :( Although upgrading the existing Su-33 fleet with electronics and engines developed for newer land-based Flankers would still make sense for long-range fleet defence or strike.

The ship platform is an interesting topic, I have seen artist's impressions that look exactly like a modified Ulyanovsk CVN (redesigned island reflecting a new sensor fit, no anti-ship missile battery presumably to increase hangar size, no steam catapults for simplicity) and the relative arrangement of the take-off spots did NOT suggest it was smaller than the old design in the slightest.

Regarding the Ka-50, I agree with the decision to go for the more conventional Mi-28 to replace the Mi-24. However, like the MiG-29 I see a naval niche for it: it is quite a bit more compact than the bulky Mi-28, so if Russia ever builds an LPH for its amphibious forces an advanced version of the Ka-50 would be an excellent choice for its combat helicopter complement (think Cobra vs. Apache).

Also, am I the only one thinking that Sukhoi should put the wet tail fins of the Su-35 as well as the wings (without the fold, of course), canards and tail planes of the Su-27KUB on the Su-34? That thing would almost approach intercontinental range ;)

Navalising a plane is not just putting new landing gear under it, it needs usually new, electronics, nav systems, corrosion resistant parts, you name it. Luckly the use of composite materials is widespread, allowing to solve such problems.

And yes, they could upgrade the su-34 aerodynamically wise, but then the Airforce would ask for more testing, which will delay the program even more. The canards could be removed, seamless (more stealthy, and lower drag) leading edge flaps, new engines (al-41). All that can be added or removed from the Su-34, but it would make the handling different, and a recertification would be required. Face it, the Su-34 is not a revolutionary plane, and it's also nearly 20 years old. Combine that with limited in-service numbers and you can guess that no upgrade will be made to its aerodynamics in the next 10 years.

Re-read my post, I'm not suggesting that the Su-34 should be navalised and neither was I being completely serious about performing the suggested surgery on the Su-34. It's just a neat idea of mine.

Ok, I get you now. Certainly good points about the amount of effort for navalising the Ka-50, but then again there is no other helicopter manufacturer in Russia with more experience in naval helo production than Kamov. It's not like Mil would find it easier to design a naval Mi-28 derivative, nevermind a clean sheet of paper design by either design bureau. Everything is relative.

Mil has tremendous experience with the Mi-2 operating from ice breakers :P But seriousely, yes, a navalised Ka-52 with VK-2500 engines makes a good candidare for such a role. But then again, such fleet would be unnecessary for Russia. They don't have any intentions of invading overseas lands, just a deterrent fleet.

Ideally there should be a new design from either of those, or maybe a ANSAT helicopter will be chosen, given its light weight. It will be a great patrol helicopter, the question is, will it be capable enough to operate from water.

The article posted by Evilbot stated that the Panther Plus USV was developed by a Russian company, it's tested by them, ok, but developed, no.
