I'm about to release a MiG-29C Mission pack. Whenever I fly others missions I usually unhide all the units so that I can eliminate most units not directly involved with the mission for performance reasons. Consequently when I release a mission pack I don't hide any of the units. I'm just wondering how others feel about this.

Option 3 should be: "Air units should be hidden, but not ground units, as recon would reveal them to mission planners.

I disagree. A few well-hidden stinger/igla/avenger/othertypeofSAM emplacements make for great pucker factor ... and there's zip reason to reveal 'mobile' defenses like that.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

Prefer it. If I fly a mission and I find that I cannot get a reasonable FPS, then I will reluctantly unhide stuff and kill off stuff I don't need. A mission designed by someone who understands the balance between playability and extra units for eye candy probably wont need me to do that.

If you've played any of my mission packs you know I don't put much stock in "extra units for eye-candy"(mostly around the airfield). I prefer to spend cycles on units involved with the mission or things you will see along your flightpath. I realize I am in the minority on this when it comes to mission builders, but I build missions for myself first and others second. and I feel that the lack of comms, not the lack of static objects at airfields is the biggest hit to immersion in LO.

It's early yet, but it's trending towards hiding enemy units...I'll hold off a day to see if this changes before I release.

Well I prefer having the hidden objects to be enemy a/c....

There was one mission that I particularly liked in Flanker.. It was called First Blood... That actually had a whole flight appear after you took off...

So the first time I flew this one I had no idea what coordinates the fight would appear at..

And once the enemy was located, your objective was to circle behind the TU-160's and take them out before they reached their target...

I recreated this mission for Lock On when it was first released... This is one of the only missions that I will fly over and over again and not tire of...

Otherwise I'm always looking for a hidden flight in my missions...

Hidden Ground Units:

I would rather know where everything is before I fly the mission.

Even the mobile units (which in LOMAC really aren't mobile)

For a few reasons:

1. Very low situation awareness in Virtual Cockpit

2. No inter_aricraft comms giving heads_up on threats

3. No comms from anywhere else with criticle info on enemy implacements (ground)

4. No comms from forward troops with criticle info on enemy implacements (ground)

If your flying a Mig and doing CAS from 3000m plus you won't get to many

serious stinger attacks but the other medium range SAM's could get you

if you don't know where they are.

If your flying Su-25's and you don't have good comms how can you possibly survive any hostile target area with hidden stingers/igla's unless you know before hand where to avoid ?

I think the LOW level of in cockpit Sit-U-awareness for LOMAC necessitates

full knowlege of all ground threats before you begin a mission.

Even with full knowlege the pilot will take risks in an attemp to complete the mission

I vote for Weta43's option!

I think fixed targets and larger formations do not need to be hidden since they would be known indeed to mission planners. Large SAM sites are difficult to hide IRL, but normally Schilka's, strela's, Igla's and the like are well hidden and mostly blended into the terrain. Those I would hide in the mission editor.

What I usually do is place an Igla Unit from my side as a Scout or Forward Observation report. As a designer it gives you the idea of where the front line would be and what is viewable.

And in the Mission Briefing, I have the "Scout" unit "report" back what it sees. So you have a good idea what's reasonable to see.

You can take a look at that with a sample briefing for a mission called Ridge HQ

You can leave comments and reviews if you want to.

I'm working on a campaign, called "Follow Through", with briefing movies between each mission.

I should have the missions play-tested by this week-end but I'll have to re-make a movie or two(including "Ridge HQ"). So it'll be done when it's done.

In the next version of the Editor, I wish they'd add +/- button to allow a range of values for the Waypoints.

One thing more.... I've actually forgotten how to unhide flights in the mission builder..

Well in my case the armament was mistakenly deleted, and I never bothered to fix it because I thought at the time that it wasn't really important..

So I've recently gone back to flying the mission and have realized that the deleted missiles are actually important...

So how do I show the hidden flight again to correct the problem..

Its been a while since I've created the mission and haven't recently done any building so I've forgotten...
