amalahama Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I think it's been implemented for dumb and laser bombs only, but it needs to become a standard. Will we see more complex, fluid flight models for other stores as well? Currently, JDAMs, Mavericks.. all look like "flying on rails"™ regards
Flagrum Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 "Flying on rails"? Afaik all those weapons have their own flight model. Like everything else, they probably have still room for improvements, but I don't understand what you mean with "flying on rails". For example, the LGBs follow a ballistic trajectory - until they spot the laser. Then the bang-bang steering starts, which you can observe quite nicely.

Did you watch how AGM-65 flies in external view? or JDAMs? they are not affected by wind, and sometimes they follow weird trajectories. Yes, LGBs and dumb bombs seem to have full 6DoF flight models, but they are the exception. Regards
Mars Exulte Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 well... they do have control surfaces for a reason. It should be expected they'll fly in very straight lines and make sharp corrections. Some of them, like the Vikhr, spiral sometimes, but that's their nature as beam riders. I doubt this is a significant issue. Physics in general, yeah, but how they fly persay not so much.
