Hi

Important things first: Great Aircraft! Really nice.

It´s early access and WIP, but maybe this is a rather easy fix:

The Radar Lock in ACM Modes is too slow. It´s most apparent when using VACQ - the target has to be within the scan-area for a couple of seconds before it aquires lock. Boresight is slow too, but VACQ is worse. When using VACQ it should be really fast to lock - like less than half the time it takes right now.

Please check with your Radar SME, I don´t remember exact times any more... ;-)

Thanks for a great simulation

yes,i just want to post another tread about this, but you did it!i am not sure this is how this mode works in hornet, well,it is a little slow when you try to lock on somebody!

I'm actually pretty sure this is how it is in the real aircraft. If you look at your Attack Radar page when you switch to say vertical scan, you can see how the radar is scanning in bars going up and down them. If you are maneuvering, there is probably a high chance that the radar beam scans past too fast or just misses the target. (Not that I have any experience in the real plane)

No, it´s not. In VACQ the radar basically only scans up/down very rapidly with very little sideway movement. About what you can see on the HUD in azimuth and 47 or so degrees up and 13 degrees down. Anything in that sector within 5nm is locked up VERY rapidly, like below one second.

The Radar is currently WIP as stated, lock-up times are too high even in RWS - but there it doesn´t have the same impact. So I thought the lock-up time might be corrected even befor the radar-module is out of WIP.

I have never flown a real F-18 - but another jet which used the APG-65.

Ok, like I said I've never used a radar before

The Radar does scan up and down a fair number of BARS and back and forth, so it goes up one 'step' for each time it goes right and left, so yes, it should take a few seconds to lock.

It doesn't do bars in vertical acquisition mode.

@Philips-Monitor: Sorry, but that's wrong. It doesn't take seconds and it doesn't scan bars like you assumed. As explained before.

It's a close combat mode for a reason - lock on happens very fast with the real radar.

It's a VERTICAL SCAN mode.

Was about to try to post this. Radar seems sluggish...

I got into a turn fight with a mirage last night on DDCS server... Would have smoked him, but i had him inside the vert acquisition zone for at least 15 seconds and it never locked him, and I'm not good at the manual gun sight...
