Growling Sidewinder Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 (edited) so i'm watching matt wagners case 1 recovery and I have the following questions -When he enters 55 xray for the TACAN and sets his course line...how does he know the code is 55? I set up a mission for myself and I type in 55 xray and I dont think anything happens....is 55 the default? Cuz I heard you can change this in the mission editor but I didnt do so. also when he sets his course to the carrier by hitting the course set switch and a line appears on the center and low MFCD the one behind the stick...I dont get that at all. basically I can't tune into the carrier at all via the TACAN and i'm following what hes doing in the video below. also how does one set the auto throttle? Watch video from 1:40 on to see what i'm talking about. WarrenSkip Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 55X is default TACAN for the Stennis. To set TACAN on your HSI, do the following: On UFC, press TCN, then press ON/OFF, press CLR to clear the default number, and press 55 and press enter, while making sure your UFC has T/R and X chosen. Next, go to your HSI on DDI or AMPCD, and press TCN which is one of the options of OSB on AMPCD/DDI. Now your TACAN should be set. He sets his course line as the carrier's course (not offset of angled deck) for situational awareness reasons. So he knows when he is on line with it and when he is opposite the bearing. Lastly, ATC, just press it at the speed you want it to hold and it'll hold that. Too much pitching up and down will not hold it very steadily.
delevero Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 The default is 1X the last time i look in the editor. ( however in some pre made missions its 55X i presume ). As Default in the Editor the Carrier named Stennis have a tacan code of 1X, and the hornet start with the tacan 1X selected. However the above does not work and i think its a bug. Here is how to make it work.. In the editor insert the carrier and click on the carrier 1 time and choose edit.. Select advanced and there you should delete the first text that say something with xxxxxx 1X so the advanced section is clear.. Now add a new command and somewhere select "tacan". Select the tacan channel to be 55X Now save the mission... Now your carrier will be working on channel 55X, you do however need to select 55X in your f18. To make the f18 start on the carrier place it on top of your carrier and ask it to start at Ramp or parking location... Ramp is with engines running, park means hornet will start turned off. PS. default radio channel for the carrier is 127.500 FM

Chops Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Lastly, ATC, just press it at the speed you want it to hold and it'll hold that. Too much pitching up and down will not hold it very steadily. For Auto Throttle (ATC) press and hold the T key. You should see ATC displayed on the Heads Up Display (HUD).
AG-51_Sabot Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Hit the A/P on the UFC. When you're steady hit button 3 (BALT) and BALT and ATC should show in the DDI "There is an art … to flying.
