fitness88 Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 (edited) Communication menu vs. throttle comm button? Trying to figure out how to use the radio, I was using the / but I finally found where it says to use ALT-\ [throttle comm button] activates the radio menu so what does / [communication menu] do...it used to active the comm menu? BTW, / works to open menu only when I'm on the ground. Thank you Edited June 5, 2018 by fitness88 wrong question
beggarman Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 bind com1 and com 2 to tbe throttle, then u can program frequencies in mission editot, use the com switch on the panel to set pre zet frequency
fitness88 Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 (edited) bind com1 and com 2 to tbe throttle, then u can program frequencies in mission editot, use the com switch on the panel to set pre zet frequency Will pre-setting frequencies in mission builder/editor have to be done for all missions I fly or will it be global? Whatever mission I fly the pre-sets will stay? I imagine I'll have to do it for all the different terrains? In all other planes this key "/" always opened the communication menu, now in F18 it works only on land. Trying to figure out how to use the radio, I was using the / but I finally found where it says to use ALT-\ [throttle comm button] activates the radio menu so what is the purpose of "/" [communication menu]? QuiGon Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 The "/"-Key is some kind of magic comms that is used on the FC3 birds that don't have their radios simulated. In most of the other modules you have to use the actual mic switch (or switches as some aircraft have two or even three radios) to use the actual radio(s) which simulates different frequencies and that kind of stuff. In these modules the "/"-Key only works on the ground to pretend you are talking directly to the ground crew. NeilWillis Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 It provides access to the comms menu when your batteries are switched off in the Hornet - so things like refuel/rearm are accessible - as if you are just talking to your crew chief. Necessary - no. Useful - yes.
Raz_Specter Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 there are 2 binds you need for the hornet Radio One = Lalt + # Radio Two = RCtrl + # I have these set on my warthog mic switch up and down This allows you to specifically call on whatever frequency you either program or select Roll the mouse over the radio knob and this will change the channel, either preset the radios in the mission editor or use the M channel to input your desired frequency Works great with Simple Radio, which you will need if you are going to fly on Multiplayer servers, of course it adds that extra realism to the sim. fitness88 Posted June 5, 2018 Author Posted June 5, 2018 Thanks all for that info. The 2 radios have squelch, AM, FM, Guard, it seems by default it's always on AM, will we be using the other bands like FM for anything? Where does UHF radio and VHF radio figure into all this?
Yoda967 Posted June 5, 2018 Posted June 5, 2018 At the moment, comms with JOHN C STENNIS are on 127.50 FM. As for UHF/VHF radio, this link might be helpful: http://www.monitoringtimes.com/html/mtMilVHF.html Very Respectfully, Kurt "Yoda" Kalbfleisch San Diego, California "In my private manual I firmly believed the only time there was too much fuel aboard any aircraft was if it was fire." --Ernest K. QuiGon Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Do we use our UHF & VHf radios, seems like only the AM band is being used by our sim... They are both used. Mission makers can assign both bands to units when assigning frequencies to them. So it's entirely up to the mission maker.
