ruprecht Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 So I understand it's much easier to see the ball in RL compared to in the sim, so I'm thinking about how to build an IFLOLS in hardware - basically a bunch of green, amber and red LEDs that light up in response to my glideslope to a carrier. I figure that with: - my x/y/z position and heading - data for the offset of the pilot's eyes from the aircraft position (aircraft specific) - the carrier's x/y/z position and heading - data for the offset of the IFLOLS from the carrier position ... I should be able to calculate the angle from the IFLOLS to the pilot's eye, and thus light the appropriate ball LED. I could technically also extrapolate from that whether I was in a dangerous flight regime (e.g. a big settle in close) and flash the waveoff lights. And only turn the LEDs on when I was say within a mile and behind the carrier. Plus simulate the lineup lasers. It's been years since I touched Export.lua, and I'm pretty sure I can easily get the ownship position/heading, but wondering if you can get that data for a specific world object (i.e. the carrier). Also, I suppose multiple carriers might confuse things. Any thoughts? Bullant Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 Would be much easier to ask ED really nicely if they could add export variables for the lens position and waveoff lights. I wonder if this is even a thing though. If two aircraft are in the groove, I presume they can each see the ball at the right position for them - which means it's either physically modelled or its implemented to be player-specific. In the latter case an export is possible, but in the former case it's not. I assumed the former case, which is why I went down this more circuitous route. BrassEm Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 (edited) The Boat does have outputs as TacView hooks into it. As obviously the aircraft do to. Doing the math you would be able to calculate the ball. However as AndrewW mentions, it would be good to hook straight into the IFLOLS outputs. But whether ED has this programmed as an output is another thing. At this time it would be all graphical calls only I would imagine. If it were possible it would lead the way to an AI LSO with callouts like you alude to. Maybe they are working on this already with the Carrier Module?
