Brinkyeti Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 The AGM-65E is riding the laser beam instead of flying towards the laser mark on the ground. This results in the following problem: When firing an AGM-65E and afterwards turning, in order to put the target at your 3/9 line, the Maverick will chase the laser beam instead of flying towards the laser marked target on the ground. As far as i'm aware the AGM-65E is laser guided and not laser beam riding. Let me know if I'm wrong though :).

Brinkyeti Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 Just did a little more testing, i think i'm wrong: This problem only occurs if the lasing aircraft is greater than 10nm away from the target. But (according to some old threads about the A10C) the maximum laser range for a TGP in DCS is ~10nm. As long as the lasing aircraft is within 10nm of the target the tracking of the AGM-65E seems to work fine.
Ramsay Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 (edited) AFAIK the targeting pod laser range is about 8nm (unless it has increased in 2.5.2). You can launch while further out (50 sec missile life = approx 12.5nm with sufficient launch speed/altitude), provided you continue to fly towards the target and it is within laser range at the time of impact. The behaviour you see is due to a DCS laser 'spot' at the end of the 8nm beam, suspended in mid air, that moves with your aircraft. AFAIK IRL the laser 'spot' should either appear on the target (if the laser is powerful enough) or not be detected at all. Brinkyeti Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 Thanks Ramsay. Already thought it'd be something like a magical line being drawn from the tgp with a certain length :D
