madeiner Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Hello, i am a little confused by the TACAN cues in the hud, only after i select a course. I mostly understand how to line up with my selected course, but i can't understand how to know where my nose is pointing relative to the actual tacan station. Is seems the arrow rest to the side rather than over or on the velocity vector even when i'm aligned correctly. The mark on the hud compass also disappears as soon as a course is selected. Is this normal behaviour? Is there a way to know where the tacan station is using the hud only, after i selected i course? Also, what is the correct procedure to intercept the course line? Edit: i watched the video about ADF and tacan by Wags, but i still cannot understand how to determine the tacan's station position in course mode
Furia Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Yes. if you select the TCN as the main navigation sensor, the usual index on the HUD that guides you to the waypoint, with the Tacan as main navigation sensor, that mark will guide you directly to the tacan [sIGPIC]http://menorca.infotelecom.es/~raulurbina/ESA/banner_furia.png[/sIGPIC]

RED Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Hello, Is there a way to know where the tacan station is using the hud only, after i selected i course? The arrow is pointing towards the station. Combined with the distance to the station you can roughly know the stations position relativ to your aircraft. Maybe a picture helps. The aircraft from the A-10 HSI is represented by the velocity vector in the F/A-18 and you will see the round circles for the next radials, too. Also, what is the correct procedure to intercept the course line? There are some e.g. the 30° method. Google "CNATRA T-45" and check out P-1204 for more info. Same HSI in the T-45.
