hitman Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 So far this has happened 3 times...I would shut down, perfectly normal on startup and then shutdown again, no operating system detected. Some people at the microsoft forums think I have a virus, but I seriously doubt that I do, or perhaps have a bad sector on my hard disk. Ive done scans suggesting otherwise, but all Im about right now is wtf is causing it. Anyone have ideas?
LazerPotatoe Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Try turning on bootsector virus protection in your BIOS. If anything tries to write to it -- it will pop up a warning. LP modules: F5-E / A4-E / A-10A / AJS-37 / SA-342 / UH-1H / Ka-50 / Mi-8 / CA would buy: OH-58 /AH-64A / AH-1 / Sepecat Jaguar / F-111
Pilotasso Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I've had similar problems. Though I use XP. I think I should have made a clean install with SP2. I installed with vanilla XP with the 137MB bug and only after that I installed SP1 and reformated the remaining space. Somehow the System keeps chewing and nibling MBT once a while. Just yesterday had to run checkdisk in startup mode because windows would get stuck ramdomly, to fix truncated system files. Gonna try use a SP2 home slipstreamed install for my new machine. Im giving this one to my brother and then let him figure this sh33t out LOL :D .
hitman Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Bios doesnt have a bootsector warning onboard...I wonder why. Anyways I dont have a bootsector virus nor do I have a bad sector on my hard drive....
Arthonon Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 How long was your system functioning properly before that happened? I had a system that had similar issues and it was due to bad PromiseUltra controller drivers. I would reinstall about once a month, until I checked and found new drivers on their site and installed using that. It's been fine ever since, and that was in 2002 (I'm using that very system to type this message). Just a thought of something to look into.
hitman Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 Depends...I havent had this laptop for more than 2 months at the most and allready Ive had to do it like 4 times allready since then.
