Dispatch Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 Why does a "B" flash, to the right of the Altitude reading? It is set to radar, not baro? Thanks Again ~
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 (edited) It flashes to indicate that you have it set to radar altitude. But the radar used for the altitude measurement is small and pretty weak, and thus has a maximum usable altitude (5000 ft). Above that, the HUD will display barometric altitude and the "B" will flash :-) It is explained in one of Wags' excellent tuturial videos: I recommend watching that series, if you haven't already. Alphamale Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Radar Alt good up to 5000 makes it perfect for NOE ingress/egress
bradleyjs Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Also, the radar altimeter will stop working when in an excessive bank angle because the transiever is on the bottom of the aircraft and loses its signal when not pointed directly at the ground.
